AIBU?

To think that some people on Mumsnet are really mean?

I would understand more if it was just on controversial posts, but I've noticed lots of people leaving unnecessary harsh/rude/sarcastic comments when the OP clearly upset and seeking advice. I'm guessing the fact that they're anonymous gives them a sense of courage they don't have in real life. I find it really weird.

Just like RL. Most people ok, some absolutely lovely and some total years.

Yanbu, there’s a plague of them.

MN is a funny old place, with plenty of normal and helpful posters mixed in with utter fruit loops

Internet routers don't come with a button that stops mean people from being mean when they go online.

Yes there are some very nasty and judgemental people on MN. I'm sure irl if you were face to face with them they wouldn't say half of what they type out to your face.

Saying that I have seen some lovely and helpful replies to posters. I just ignore the nasty ones as not worth stressing over.

Yes some of the comments are plain nasty and hurtful. Especially when it’s about the corona virus. We should all be sticking together and support each other in these hard times instead of being so quick to shoot someone down and belittle them.

Well it’s not “MN” it’s that it’s reflective of people as a whole - some are nice, some are not 🤷‍♀️

Saying that, local neighbourhood chat is BRUTAL. That's not anonymous. It's shocking how horrible people are prepared to be, even when they can easily be targeted as a result of being so vile.

I've never seen behaviour in RL that matches the MN nasties!

Hope that doesnt mean all the nice people I know are covert arse holes Shock

Yes I agree, it amazes me the utter nastiness from some posters, totally unecessary. I can only imagine it makes them feel better somehow. Why don't they just follow the old adage if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all!

But you're going to get differences of opinions and some won't like that!

I don't usually get involved in these threads as lots of posters are fabulous.
Lately I have to agree with you.
I don't believe they are all trolling, not to talk of the old days yes there was harsh debate without the level of aggression.
I just opened a fresh thread and bam the OP was scolded. It is insane and unnecessary.

Don’t those bloody women know we are supposed to be a hive mind? Wink

There are some nasty posters but there are also many posters who throw their toys out of the pram when others don’t agree with them. Some people just think that ANY opposing view is nasty. I don’t lie bullies, but I do like a robust argument and will stand my ground.
