To think that some people on Mumsnet are really mean?

I would understand more if it was just on controversial posts, but I've noticed lots of people leaving unnecessary harsh/rude/sarcastic comments when the OP clearly upset and seeking advice. I'm guessing the fact that they're anonymous gives them a sense of courage they don't have in real life. I find it really weird.

They're trolls and yes some really nasty replies. Could be anybody - mums, grans, kid, men.

VettiyaIruken Fri 15-May-20 21:27:12

Just like RL. Most people ok, some absolutely lovely and some total years.

zscaler Fri 15-May-20 21:27:45

Yanbu, there’s a plague of them.

MN is a funny old place, with plenty of normal and helpful posters mixed in with utter fruit loops

recycledteenager24 Fri 15-May-20 21:30:18

i'm a bully basher and report andnasty troll like comments, happy to report mn usually delete them.
some people just needto fuck off and get a life rather bitching and being cruel on here.

vodkaredbullgirl Fri 15-May-20 21:33:49

Welcome to MN, a place of hormonal women smile.

softjellycell Fri 15-May-20 21:34:06

Internet routers don't come with a button that stops mean people from being mean when they go online.

Thedogscollar Fri 15-May-20 21:56:44

Yes there are some very nasty and judgemental people on MN. I'm sure irl if you were face to face with them they wouldn't say half of what they type out to your face.

Saying that I have seen some lovely and helpful replies to posters. I just ignore the nasty ones as not worth stressing over.

GunungBatur Fri 15-May-20 21:59:14

Tbh- don't post in aibu if you can't handle harshness.

@Gunungbatar oh do fuck off with your blunt postings

DDemelza Fri 15-May-20 22:03:52

Why oh why can't the laydeez of Mumsnet be more ladylike and genteel?

wrings hands

Yes some of the comments are plain nasty and hurtful. Especially when it’s about the corona virus. We should all be sticking together and support each other in these hard times instead of being so quick to shoot someone down and belittle them.

Splitsunrise Fri 15-May-20 22:12:30

Well it’s not “MN” it’s that it’s reflective of people as a whole - some are nice, some are not 🤷‍♀️

OldCow1 Fri 15-May-20 22:13:52

Saying that, local neighbourhood chat is BRUTAL. That's not anonymous. It's shocking how horrible people are prepared to be, even when they can easily be targeted as a result of being so vile.

NurseJaques Fri 15-May-20 22:15:06

I've never seen behaviour in RL that matches the MN nasties!

Hope that doesnt mean all the nice people I know are covert arse holes shock

1FootInTheRave Fri 15-May-20 22:17:30

Agree, there are a disproportionate amount of nob heads on here.

TurkeyBasterHopeItWorks Fri 15-May-20 22:17:46

Yes I agree, it amazes me the utter nastiness from some posters, totally unecessary. I can only imagine it makes them feel better somehow. Why don't they just follow the old adage if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all!

understandmenow Fri 15-May-20 22:18:01

Yes some of the comments are plain nasty and hurtful. Especially when it’s about the corona virus. We should all be sticking together and support each other in these hard times instead of being so quick to shoot someone down and belittle them.

But you're going to get differences of opinions and some won't like that!

Sparklingbrook Fri 15-May-20 22:18:07

The internet is full of meanies. grin

EmeraldShamrock Fri 15-May-20 22:19:40

I don't usually get involved in these threads as lots of posters are fabulous.
Lately I have to agree with you.
I don't believe they are all trolling, not to talk of the old days yes there was harsh debate without the level of aggression.
I just opened a fresh thread and bam the OP was scolded. It is insane and unnecessary.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily Fri 15-May-20 22:20:11

Don’t those bloody women know we are supposed to be a hive mind? wink

There are some nasty posters but there are also many posters who throw their toys out of the pram when others don’t agree with them. Some people just think that ANY opposing view is nasty. I don’t lie bullies, but I do like a robust argument and will stand my ground.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily Fri 15-May-20 22:20:47

Mind you, I do that in real life too. grin
