I know there aren't any details. But if you are a year R or year 1 parent, will you be sending them back?

YANBU - Yes, sending back
YABU - No, staying at home

Why wouldn’t you? Kids are basically unaffected

Nope, but only because I'm in a position where by I'm home anyway with babies and so I don't need to.

When? Based on what? Your question is too vague.

As soon as they reopen. Maybe 1 June.

I have a reception child and a yr3. I’ll definitely be sending my youngest back, sad for my eldest though who will be gutted that he can’t go when his brother can.

I have both and I am not sure. Depending on whether the attendance is compulsory.

I'll be keeping my DC at home until there is clearer picture of how the return to school affects infection rates but I have two DC with additional needs and DH is in a medically vulnerable group.

I'd expect year 6 to have some chance at social distancing. Reception/year 1, not a chance.

Whilst children generally don't get ill, except the ones that do, we don't really know if they will bring it home to their parents.

You will get different answers depending on where people live so here in Cornwall it appears to be safer here at the moment. Should that continue then people are more likely to send their dcs to school. We're 3 weeks away yet though

Mine are nursery and year 2 so not included if they could go back I wouldn’t be sending them atm.

Yes!!! We both work full time and home schooling year 1 child (and supporting teen with ADHD) has nearly killed us. We gave managed but only by doing really long days on and off working from 6.30am to 8pm to fit it all in.

School is 5 mins walk away. Can't wait!

My Reception-aged DS will be straight back (and very happy to see his friends & teachers). Feel a bit bad for his older brother though...

This seems madness to me.

How can reception/year 1 socially distance from the adults in their class? Yes, children aren’t usually affected but their teachers could easily be.

Yes, it's necessary for her mental health and the continuation of our jobs.

I will not be sending mine back. It's enormously difficult trying to WFH and educate my children, but the alternative is far worse. I will not sacrifice them to the arseholes in charge and their quest for herd immunity at any cost.

Yes, a thousand times. My (only child) DS desperately needs to spend time with other children at this point.

Seems an odd choice of year group to send back to be honest. Why not some of the years working towards exams etc...

Report
Magicbabywaves · 10/05/2020 19:41

I’ve got one in each of the returning year groups, and yes they’ll be going.

Report
Solasum · 10/05/2020 19:42

@Bagelsandbrie Because the earlier the interventions the better, and the better chance those from deprived backgrounds have to make up ground. Some children come to school having never seen books before.
