Single parent using delivery slots

I have a 5yo who I have been too scared to take to the supernarket. I recently managed to get an online delivery. Since then my friend has made a few remarks about how delivery slots should be used for vulnerable or elderly.

I feel guilty, but also a bit defensive. What do you all think?

YABU - get to the shop with DC
YANBU - get a delivery if you can

Seems you can't win...if you take your child to the shop you get frowned upon for not leaving them at home...if you get delivery you get frowned upon for taking the slot from somebody else.
You accept that delivery with your head held high! X

That's how I feel @LoutyBooty, I'll be judged whichever option I take. If I had the option of leaving DC with someone I'd bloody love a trip out even if it was to stand in weird queues.

I think it's reasonable if you're a single parent to use a delivery slot. Can't vote though as in the app!

Do what you want. I just got an email from a supermarket inviting me to sign up for a delivery, & it's not even for the vulnerable. So they think it's OK. I thought it was, anyway.

Slots go to vulnerable and priority customers first. They get to see them one week earlier and see more slots (withTesco anyway). Then if there are any left you can use them - if you can get one! So YANBU.

Single parent here. I have either gone when the stbexh is around or taken them with me. They know not to touch anything and I've not found it that bad.

Having said that, ANYONE has the right to get a delivery slot, they aren't just for the vulnerable, your friend is being unreasonable.

Loads in my area too. I had a delivery yesterday and have got another one booked for next Thursday but there are still slots showing as available for Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not a single parent, we have our shopping delivered every couple of weeks.

The slots are there, use them if you can get one.

Technically I’m not vulnerable but I struggle to walk which is why I started home delivery years ago (and I am of the belief that my medication does make me vulnerable). My DP could go shopping but then we are risking the virus coming into the house so we still book and online slot as normal.

People who are being deemed vulnerable are being given access to slots with delivery companies so you shouldn’t feel bad that you managed to get one!

Slots go to people who have been identified as vulnerable first. Any that you're seeing are leftover from that. If you don't use one, someone else who's not vulnerable will.

YANBU. I'm using online slots because I can't leave my DS for as long as it would take me to queue to get in, and if I dragged him along (unwillingly!) I couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't touch things, because he has asd and taps as he moves around.

I'm sure people are judging me too, as DS is 13, but if they aren't doing, or paying for our shopping, it's none of their business!

Sainsbury’s has had lots of delivery slots every time I have looked for the last 2 weeks. I stopped using them for a while but am using them again as normal now. I think it is fine.

If you can get a slot, use it. We've had slots this whole time, as we have shopped online for years and has various delivery passes and recurring slots set up 🤷‍♀️ and there are now plenty round here anyway if you just check a few times a day
