AIBU?

To be really sad that Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman have separated.

Officially cabin fevered now but I have followed both of their careers and always felt slightly that Neil Gaiman held all the power since AP had their child 4 years ago. She posts often about how much she loves him, he never does this.
They were in lockdown in New Zealand together then suddenly he left to hid house in Scotland.
I feel really sorry for her stuck in a country with their child, heartbroken and unable to face to face sort it all out with her husband.

How has he managed to move to Scotland? I thought better of him than that, whatever may or may not be going on in his relationship (because we have no idea) aside.

You sound very over-invested in all of this when it's two people who presumably you are not friends with. Either way it is not very nice to start a gossip thread about people having a difficult time.

I think he has a house in Scotland. God knows how he managed to leave NZ during lockdown.

She's a pretty awful person, though. I'm not surprised he didn't want to stay in lockdown with her.

I assumed that she posted like that because she's all about the open emotions, rather than that he didn't feel the same way. He has by far the bigger career, which must be tough when both of them need to be able to move around. Interesting that he's gone to his house in Scotland though - she doesn't like it, apparently. Although given it's in Skye, he's a dickhead for going there at the moment when people are being discouraged from travelling to the islands.

I always wonder why people who don't know who a thread refers to post a "who are they?" type post. It would take the same amount of time to google and even less to ignore it.

Yes, I wondered whether he was one of those older dads who wasn’t as invested in having the whole family things as perhaps she was.

I really can't get aeriated over this...

They are both very strong personalities, verging on arrogant in his case, they have never lived together full time anyway, or even anywhere near approaching that.

I've always understood their relationship to be mostly long distance and surviving only on the basis that they DO have seperate lives and live mainly apart - I am not at all surprised to discover enforced time together has caused a split.

NZ is an odd place to choose to live if you have a career where you need to be able move around easily.

People trying to be clever by saying they don't know who a very very famous and celebrated author is and proving their own ignorance instead is very amusing.

I follow him on Facebook and he's often posted in complete support of everything she does. Their business is their own though and we don't know and have no right to know what caused the breakdown of their marriage.

I’m surprised at how many people don’t know who Neil Gaiman is. Do people not read?

I dislike Amanda Palmer (not a fan of her work and her social media presence is incredibly annoying!) so it always made me suspicious that there might be something wrong with him- he married her after all!
They have an incredibly beautiful child though, and I guess it’s always sad when people can’t make things work - I hope they are both happier without each other.

I think his whole career he's buggered off to write somewhere isolated. I do t think not being able to do exactly as he likes would work well for him for an extended period of time.

She is very talented but sounds extremely hard work with everything out there always. Ditto not coping well with externally imposed boundaries.

Maybe they just need some space.

Snapdragon, odd of you to jump in with that. It would have been preferable for you not to post too!

I think he did post a lot about how much he loved her, and how great her work was. I was very surprised to see this but I'll be honest I have no info or opinions on the prior state of their relationship.

I'm assuming he's possibly gone to be with his UK based family.

Pretty sure they don't live in NZ, they just happened to be there when lockdown happened. I think they have various houses in the US and the UK (based on following them both on Twitter).

I think they just happened to be in NZ so decided to 'lockdown' there. Saw Amanda's post on Twitter this morning.
