I’ve been furloughed so I’m watching far too much Netflix.

Anyway, I’ve just binged Life on Mars and I’m now on Ashes to Ashes, and can I just say that Gene Hunt makes me swoon. To quote a mumsnet classic, he gives me the fanny gallops!

I don’t even care if I’m being unreasonable grin

Butterflyonmyshoulder Thu 30-Apr-20 16:30:38

My DP has done the same as you and I think he feels the same grin

Moomin12345 Thu 30-Apr-20 16:31:30

I suppose he's the antithesis of the modern hip skinny-jeans-clad feminine man. I see where you're coming from, even if he's not really my type physically.

isabellerossignol Thu 30-Apr-20 16:31:36

I agree.

BoreOfWhabylon Thu 30-Apr-20 16:33:06

Yes indeedy! But only as Gene Hunt, the actor does nothing for me in other roles.

UnfinishedSymphon Thu 30-Apr-20 16:33:16

Totally agree

I know I’d despise anyone like Hunt if I met them in real life but my god, I fancied him something rotten in Life on Mars grin

Lottapianos Thu 30-Apr-20 16:43:40

I see what you mean. Theres something very old fashioned 'manly' about him

romany4 Thu 30-Apr-20 16:48:34

Phillip Glenister has always been shagworthy in my eyes.
I've fancied him since he was in Clocking Off about 20 years ago.
And don't even get me started favourable sexy he is in Mad Dogs!

romany4 Thu 30-Apr-20 16:49:10

About how not favourable!

TheSoapyFrog Thu 30-Apr-20 16:50:20

I have also binge watched for the first time recently and I couldn't agree with you more

CSIblonde Thu 30-Apr-20 16:50:26

I feel the same. I think they called Gene Hunt 'retrosexual' when the first series came out. Manly is definitely a thing for me. I don't want a fight for the mirror in the morning.

MrSheenandMe Thu 30-Apr-20 16:52:12

Gorgeous! So sexy. (Saw PG in Waitrose once - nearly swooned on the spot). Must re-watch Life on Mars. (So many BoxSets, so little time!)

Ironmanrocks Thu 30-Apr-20 17:12:18

Ooh we've not seen Life on Mars - but as far as weird swoon-worthy detectives go....I had a real thing for Julien Baptiste in The Missing. Very strange as I usually do not go for older men. But he.... makes.... my...... heart.... stop........ smile

Hearhoovesthinkzebras Thu 30-Apr-20 17:14:41

Completely agree op.

Pinkarsedfly Thu 30-Apr-20 17:16:43

Fit. As. Fuck.

The scene where he wordlessly pours Bollyknickers a massive glass of wine after a tough shift makes go weak at the flaps

Justabadwife Thu 30-Apr-20 17:17:36

We watched them last week, and I thought the same.

Recently binge watched Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes for the first time (I know, I know, I'm always last to the party lol) and YADNBU.
Especially like the scene where he smashes down the window and carries her out to safety

Oh yes definitely.

Poodles03 Thu 30-Apr-20 17:20:15

Well, Gene Hunt was an arsehole in many ways but he was ''real'' man, a man's man, right? I miss 70s men - they make me horny too, OP.

I recently rewatched Life on Mars and loved it, it was so refreshing seeing people punching each other in the face every 5 minutes, rather than all the sappy good-goody boring shit of today. The ending of Life of Mars was fantastic.

OP, you should watch/rewatch Minder.

NaomiFromMilkShake Thu 30-Apr-20 17:20:16

I would give him six months to get out of my bed. grin

PastMyBestBeforeDate Thu 30-Apr-20 17:21:40

PG is generally swoon worthy but esp as Gene Hunt.
