To hate fucking "catch up" phone calls

I hate people phoning me. I'm a texter. Unless I have anything important to say or it's been a long time since I've spoken to someone and there's genuinely things to catch up on I just can't be bothered with all that drivel about the shit we've all been doing today oh I got up at 8am oh I had my nails done. I only really phone my Mum and a couple of immediate relatives who I'm very close to, just to see if they're okay. When I meet up with friends (believe it or not I have friends) I'm engaging and friendly but I just hate phone calls. I have very little to say at the best of times and I'm just almost in pain waiting for it to end. I've told people before I rarely phone anyone and I'm not one for phones and they still call me. Why?! I'm isolating alone and it's really made me realise how little I need to interact with people. Please just take the hint! It's like a game of tennis, you have to keep it going. Can any introverts relate?!

I don’t mind people phoning me but it absolutely grates when friends video call me without it being pre planned.

Grin I’m exactly the same, always have been. I’ve never understood why someone would call me when they usually could easily text whatever it was they had to say.

Oh I've told everyone politely I won't accept any further video or zoom calls planned or not so don't invite me to any more. I know what they look like. Man I'm a miserable bastard. I don't even care anymore it's just the way I feel!

I'm the same. People know not to phone me unless in the case of dire emergency. Just send me a fuckin text!

I’m the same as you OP. I’m terrible on the phone. There is really only one person I enjoy a phone conversation with and it’s my best friend. Tbh I’m shit at text too. I realised today I’ve been crap at keeping in touch during isolation and have written myself a list of people I should make the effort to contact because otherwise it just doesn’t occur to me to contact them- because I don’t need the contact but I realise that maybe they would like to know I’m thinking of them.

I 100% understand. Absolutely hate phone calls, even with my very closest people. I'd much rather text.

Totally agree OP. I just ignore the phone and text instead. I find it so bloody intrusive.

I hate texting. I really CBA fiddling with phone when I can have a proper grown up two way conversation.

I am older than most of you and so are my family. They appreciate a phone call.

My DPs are insisting on daily catch up calls at the moment despite the fact that nobody is doing anything of any interest. For the last three days, all we've had to talk about is their new vacuum cleaner. Utterly pointless. Phone calls should be reserved for urgent queries which need an immediate response and that's it.

I'd bloody love someone to bother phoning me during this.

There's a lot of lonely people out there, don't be such a whinge bag!

Some people get their energy from talking, people, conversations etc. I'm the opposite it just absolutely drains me my social battery is getting flatter and flatter the older I get. I'm just going to have to tell people look just text me and I'll see you when I see you for fucks sake. I know I should be grateful so many people would love someone to care enough to phone them 😢

Couldn’t you phone someone if you want to talk?

Sounds like the people you talk to are the problem

You are miserable! I don't call to chat normally but during lockdown have about 1-2 great catch up calls a week with various friends always makes me feel better. Mostly normal calls though not a fan of video calls Grin

I wouldn't worry about it. Carry on like that and no-one will want to talk to you anyway Hmm

Ach - I think everyone is different - I prefer a phone call to a text so I would instinctively telephone , but my SIL is different - she would prefer a text - so I know that now, she has said . Just tell them ( don't hint ) how you prefer to stay in touch. Most nice people will do it the way you want them to - hope you are well nonetheless

Yep, that’s me. Was just complaining to dh that my mum kept on ringing me today (only spoke to her 3 days ago). Eventually I reluctantly phoned her back in case there was something wrong but no, she just wants to ‘chat’. Cue a 30 minute phone call about...well...nothing. A detailed description of what she had for dinner and how she cooked it. A story about her next door neighbours that I’ve heard 43 times before. The same stuff we’ve said to one another for the last 4 weeks “yes, I went for a walk today, did you?” “Yes, so long as you social distance and wash your hands you should be ok” etc etc. It’s excruciating! She lives with her partner btw so isn’t alone. She has also already spoken to her dsis, my dsis and dbro - she also texts her gc’s every day and gets annoyed if they don’t respond!

I also hate WhatsApp and am on a few groups but I rarely comment as I just don’t feel the need. It’s not that I don’t care about my friends and family - I’m just not that bothered about being in regular contact. Dh and I keep on saying how it’s actually quite nice just being home with the dc’s - not pressure to go anywhere, see anyone. We’re obviously massively unsociable!

I hate phone calls. They are so intrusive and demanding of your time. A text you can answer at your leisure. Whilst doing other things, if you like.

I much prefer texting as well; gives me time to frame my answer; I don't feel hurried into replying or making a decision. Also with phone calls I see things around me and get distracted--and it's hard to do things with one hand (I hate speakerphone calls because the family can hear everything!). Same reason I don't like podcasts or audiobooks really, I get distracted by my surroundings...

Absolutely the same. I end up doing jobs or playing games on the iPad. Just not interested. Far more interested in meeting up for a chat.

I find a back and forth text/Messenger/WhatsApp conversation far more annoying and time consuming that talking to someone.

I'm the same, I hate phone calls.

As @WhatsYourNumber said, I find them intrusive and demanding of your time.

Don't get me started on impromptu video calls. They give me the rage. I tend to ignore most of them.
