AIBU?

For wanting to go for an early morning run

So since christmas I have been on a diet and exercise regime, driven by the fact I am bridesmaid for a friend at the end of the year. So far I have lost 2 stone (slow progress!) And then lockdown happened. I have been quite good, tracked my food and dd and I have been out for a walk every day. I've lost 5lbs whilst in lockdown.

I really got into running at the gym before lockdown, which obviously now isn't an option. Dh works shifts so I have to work anything round his shifts.

He is still working and is working all weekend so I said I want to get up before he goes to work and go for a run. He has to leave the house at 730, so I will get up at 630, go for a 30 - 40 min run and be back before he leaves for work.

Dh thinks this is a stupid idea and has voiced his opinion about this all afternoon. I'm now losing all motivation about keeping going as I'm getting no support.

Is this a really stupid idea?

Also to add, despite feeling good about my weight loss, I asked Dh the other day if it could notice, and his response was of course not, you haven't lost enough yet!

He doesn't sound very supportive. I am Shock that he said he can't tell, of course 2 stone shows. Well done on your weight loss! I think YANBU and you should go anyway. Often partners struggle when people lose weight as they worry you will change, but your health and happiness is important. Good luck!

Loads of people are nature early risers or want a run before work. Why does he think it is a stupid idea?

Not a stupid idea at all-I go every day at that time, there are usually very few people about so it’s ideal. Plus it really wakes me up and energises me for the day. Go for it!

What are his reasons for saying it’s stupid? Sounds fine to me. My DH would have no issue with it.

I love getting up to run at that time, it means I can relax the rest of the day knowing I’ve done my thing. The light is lovely and fewer people out,. He sound a charmer by the way.

It's a great idea. Is he objecting because he will have to parent for that hour?

Hit send too soon.. Often people fail to support someone doing something they can't or don't want to do. Don't let that get in your way!

I don't think you're giving yourself enough time. Is he concerned that you'll take longer getting ready and out, and won't be back by time he needs to leave?

Ignore him, I love running at that time of the morning watching the world wake up around me

There's nothing stupid about your plan. It sounds great. It'll be lovely and quieter at that time. Go for it!!!

I set my alarm for 6.30, am out by 6.40 and usually home between 7.15 and 7.30. Running at that time at the moment is glorious. Light, cool, loads of birdsong and sets me up for the day.

Why is it a stupid idea? And is he always a bit of a dick?

He is being a knob. That is my preferred running slot, it’s quiet and cool. Well done you, keep going!

What’s stupid about it?

How can he not see two stone off? Is it two stone off twenty to go? Or does he have sight problems??

Not at all a stupid idea. I get up anywhere from 0400 - 0430 to fit in a good run before work. If it helps you to maintain your mental wellbeing and weight loss then it sounds like a great idea to me.

Why is it stupid? Lots of people run before work or around their other commitments.

I bet you look amazing. Well done for losing the weight so far.
Take no notice of him. I reckon he's feeling insecure about your new emerging look.

He sounds a proper charmer, of couirse he has noticed he just choses to be an arse about it.
Why on earth would you going for a run be unreasonable?
Why on earth is he not supporting you is he scared you will decide he is a bit of a dick after all and leave him? Self fulfilling prophecy if he keeps that up tbh.

I always run at that time - the streets are quiet, it's not too warm out and it sets you up for the rest of the day. Ignore him, he sounds jealous. Well done on the weightloss, that's a great amount to have lost already xx

Do you have young children? Is he annoyed that he'll have to watch them while he's getting ready for work?

I love running but find going out first thing on an empty stomach much harder work than having breakfast first.
