To not understand clapping for kids

Why are we now doing this? The premise I’ve seen is that their lives have been turned upside down, no longer able to see family or friends. Isn’t that all of us? And surely if they don’t understand why we’re on lockdown, they’re not going to understand us clapping?
Hasn’t this gone a bit far?
I do have kids, and they are most definitely affected, but I don’t feel the need to clap for them especially and they don’t want me to.

WTF is this??

Thesearmsofmine Sat 04-Apr-20 11:10:44

I won’t be doing it, I doubt many will. I have seen some kind of dance one going around too?

Samcro Sat 04-Apr-20 11:11:01

???

elQuintoConyo Sat 04-Apr-20 11:11:42

Clap to cheer kids up?

You might not like it if intend to do it, but it doesn't stretch the imagination much, does it, to work out why?

I'm in Spain, we clap off our balconies every day at 8. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. No skin off my cheese.

Wannabangbang Sat 04-Apr-20 11:11:56

Ay what, clap for kids, never heard of it hmm

Isn't it clap for NHS

Willowmartha1 Sat 04-Apr-20 11:12:02

Think this whole clapping thing has got out of hand now to be honest.

Lockheart Sat 04-Apr-20 11:12:40

I'm solving this dilemma by ignoring all the virtue signalling BS on social media and doing things which actually help, like volunteering and giving money.

WeAllHaveWings Sat 04-Apr-20 11:12:47

I've seen it suggested. Ignored.

glencoco Sat 04-Apr-20 11:13:34

Oh it's crazy. Just give your kids a cuddle and tell them you think they're coping well. Or talk about how rubbish it is but why it's worth it or whatever, just do it for them and not the neighbours/social media.

livingthegoodlife Sat 04-Apr-20 11:13:45

Good god no.

zigaziga Sat 04-Apr-20 11:13:51

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of.

My young children certainly don’t need anyone clapping for them. The nearly 1 year old is oblivious and the 4 year old is having the time of his life.

Mummymummums Sat 04-Apr-20 11:14:02

Nope! Shan't.

LavenderQuartz Sat 04-Apr-20 11:14:32

Sod that!!

Hendalle Sat 04-Apr-20 11:14:33

I won’t be doing this, or the dance one or the torch one.
IMHO it just makes everything utterly meaningless. It’s all so diluted and false, devoid of any meaning.

insancerre Sat 04-Apr-20 11:16:23

No
Not doing it
People should be downplaying things and keeping a sense of normality

Wewearpinkonwednesdays Sat 04-Apr-20 11:17:21

Should we just all stand on our door steps and clap and dance all fucking day now 🙄

Smartanimal Sat 04-Apr-20 11:19:15

Fuck that shit.

SoupDragon Sat 04-Apr-20 11:20:37

Is there a chance it will be loud enough to rouse mine from their beds? If so, I'm all for it.

Nuttyaboutnutella Sat 04-Apr-20 11:22:12

I've seen this. Load of fucking nonsense.

mumtumdocare Sat 04-Apr-20 11:23:20

Just no. If anything I applaud parents for not going insane right now.

Mrsjayy Sat 04-Apr-20 11:24:59

Good god wtf is wrong with people we will be clapping at sunrises next. hmm I get it is hard for children but children are resiliant it has only been 3 weeks.

stickman12 Sat 04-Apr-20 11:26:21

Ffs we will be clapping for cows next

Quirrelsotherface Sat 04-Apr-20 11:26:48

Ridiculous, my DC are happy, content, relaxed and loving their time. They certainly won't be clapped for it and nor would they want to be! The first clap for the NHS was amazing and moving but let's move on now!

zigaziga Sat 04-Apr-20 11:28:04

Should we just all stand on our door steps and clap and dance all fucking day now 🙄

It’s going to be like the Soviet Union where no one wants to be the first one to stop clapping. We’ll be out there half the day. Oh, and here’s a round of applause to the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker!!
