AIBU?

Husband has CV I think

Husband is an essential worker, so has been working throughout this, he felt unwell yesterday and overnight has got worse.

Hot
No sense of taste
Aching
Really bad pain below his shoulder blades (which is odd!)
Coughing (not continuous but it's there)
When he was getting out of bed for the toilet last night, lots of groans as it was painful moving.

Clearly called in sick today.

My AIBU is, I am scared and whilst he absolutely does not need medical intervention now, when do I know it's getting worse and he does? I am assuming it will be very obvious?

I'm next to him now and I am probably being over sensitive but his breathing seems louder than usual.

Also, I was due to shop, today, so little food in the house, Iceland can deliver tomorrow to elderly, vulnerable and people self isolating, am I justified to use this, or I have a brother who could go shopping for me possibly.

I for some reason never thought it would be us, but I'm sure lots of people feel that way.

Get your brother to go and self isolate.

Sorry to hear that. It must be a really worrying time for you.

I saw this earlier. Might be worth trying. I see a video by the couple on the cruise ship that came down with it, he was told they might put him on a ventilator, so he started doing breathing exercises and his stats went from low 90s to 99% in two days, and he avoided ventilation.

You can fill in the NHS111 questionnaire to advise you when/if you might need medical input.

If you can get a food delivery slot and Iceland provide them for people SI then go ahead and use it, or your brother can shop.

Remember that the vast majority of people will come through CV completely fine. Keep following the NHS advice, keep your DH hydrated and let him rest. Fingers crossed for you.

Self isolate and ask your brother to do your shopping.

Hi OP sorry to hear DH is unwell. NHS 111 online have this available to help you decide what care you need: 111.nhs.uk/covid-19

There is also the COVID19 symptom tracker app via play store, I think they may use this for surveillance data.

Hope DH feels better soon x

Thanks @ChainsawBear I will go and look at that.

Honestly at the moment he is "fine" but I want to be prepared and make sure we keep on top of this.

DId he take his temperature? There are other viruses doing the rounds so it could be something else, don't panic.

I became ill 2 weeks ago and was in a complete meltdown. I'm now finally better, was never very poorly, and up to this stage, I don't know if it was it or something else.

Thinking of you in these difficult hours.

@CarolHasAnotherUTI that link doesn't work for me. I'd be interested in seeing it though.

If your brother can drop bags at your doorstep, knock and step right back then that would be fine I think, there just needs to be no proximity or contact between you. Don't give him reusable shopping bags in advance.

And I guess ring 111 if you were starting to think he might need hospital, they should be able to advise on when to make that call.

Hope he gets better.

Thank you @Lex234 that's brilliant, it led to saying self isolate (which we knew anyway), but I now know about looking out for confusion, panting etc, so I know if it gets serious.

This was me two weeks ago OP. Hang in there, DP was ill for five days, fluey feeling then lungs became bad, for further 36 hours. He then started improving. The key was just make sure paracetamol regularly, liquids and get him to sit up or a least be at 45 degree angle - this is what 111 told us.

It's hard not to panic but distracting myself helped. Watched films with dc. Kept checking on him. You'll get through it. BrewCake

Check his temp, OP. Give him paracetamol if he has a fever and keep an eye on it.

The 111 website has a Q&A section to help you decide if he needs medical input 111.nhs.uk/covid-19

And yes to your DB getting the shopping!

@dontdisturbmenow we don't have a thermometer, but he is hot, I could feel the heat coming off him in bed last night.

I’ve had/have it. I went to hospital this week because my breathing got significantly worse. The Consultant said that even though I could only say 6-8 words at a time (because I was breathless) that I should only come back if it was down to 1 or 2 words.
I’m 10 days in now and apparently days 7-9 are the point at which you either start to improve or getting worse.

@iHateJanuary2020 of course, if it wasn't for CV, I'd be glibly saying he had "man flu".

The sitting up thing was to benefit the lungs btw. Told to me by 111 when they called back and GP who called later in the day.

You need to be sleeping in a different room to him while he is ill, to try to avoid catching it.

Report
Northernsoullover · 04/04/2020 09:24

I know you want to keep an eye on him but you really shouldn't be sleeping next to him

hesgotit · 04/04/2020 09:24

@Oakmaiden I'll do that tonight (the sofa for me), although of course it might be too late 😢

I know, he's now well on the road to recovery and I was actually glad to see the dressing gown of doom!

I'm the asthmatic one but my symptoms were mild with no cough. Loss of smell and taste though so we are sure its CV.

In fairness I think last night he was trying to convince himself that he was just tired from pressure at work, but this morning it was clearly not that.

I’m better today - I had a good day earlier this week and thought I was done. How wrong was I? I was in an ambulance the following day. It’s a tricky virus that lulls you in a false sense of security.

I second sitting up as much as possible and I was told to try and sleep on my front to help with oxygen absorption (or something!).

I still have no sense of smell or taste - literally nothing - which I wish would rectify itself now.

Report
DragonMamma · 04/04/2020 09:26

And yes, sleep separately. Me and DH have been - plus I’ve been sweating buckets with it Envy
