AIBU?

To tell you about the muppets I've seen

Due to an increasing amount of time stuck inside or queuing for milk and bread I thought I'd share some of the idiots I've seen since lockdown started.

Man walking his dog in a gas mask, dog had a face mask on too.

Family of 6 shopping in asda, all had a trolley to comply with the 1 trolley 1 person rule.

Woman in asda spraying dettol on loose carrots before she packed them.

What else have we seen?

Our local country supermarket is only letting 5 people in at a time. Perfect.
Except...one woman declared she wanted the supermarket to herselfHmm...yep no one else in their apartment from 1 worker to serve her and just her...she claimed she ‘wanted to look around and decide what she wanted’ so goodness knows how long she was going to be. Manager refused. She was not impressed and stomped off to find another place that would let her shop aloneGrin

Man in his 50s driving down a pedestrianised road, beeping shopper out of the way. He then parked directly outside the opticians and sauntered in. No disability, just completely entitled.

Two queues outside Boots and man in his 20s made a big deal of standing 3 metres away from everyone and then spotted his friend out with his partner and young child and left the queue for a chat. Hugged his mate, kissed his partner on the cheek and stood near them for about ten minutes before re-entering the queue.

It's amazing how the selfish make themselves known, I'm glad the manager stood their ground.

A week ago I was working at a tube station with one other member of staff. A man wearing a mask approached my colleague for information but walked right up to her and pulled his mask down before asking his question Shock. It's little wonder she's off sick/isolating now.

I overlook a field and I'm enjoying watching all the people who seem to think the 1 hour of exercise is mandatory.
The amount of people I've seen riding bikes or running who have obviously never done it before, I think I watched one woman fall off her massively oversized bike 10 times, she was wearing the amazing get up of a child's helmet, a pain of shin pads and flip flops.

Surely people who haven’t exercised much before getting out and exercising is NOT a bad thing? Obesity is a far bigger risk to most people in the UK than bloody covid19. 😬
Whatever happened to #bekind? So many people just want to slag other people off- not realising that some other behaviours might be helping people feel in control at a difficult time for them.

Stop with the judgement of all the "extra" exercise. 2m people in UK play football regularly, 4.5m people have a gym membership. Of course a few more people are exercising where you can see them.

OP, my work is outdoors and quite physical, so normally I don't do a great deal of official exercise. Currently not able to work, so I am of course taking the opportunity to get outside and move around a bit. I find the comments about people who don't normally exercise quite irritating. Everyone is doing their best in an unprecedented situation.

Agree Isadora - I'm one of the ones who has gone from no exercise to going for a walk every day! I think this is largely because I'm no longer getting out of the house to go to work or go shopping, but there may also be an element of wanting to do something because it's restricted! Am hoping i keep it up after this ends.

I’ve been cycling on an ill fitting bike. It’s my ex’s and was still in the garage. I usually swim three times a week and this was the best I could manage. Wasn’t wearing flip flops though.

I walk a six mile school run each day - 1 mile there and back at 9am for drop off, 12pm for nursery collection, and again at 3.30pm for school collection. People seeing me on a normal day likely wouldn't see me as exercising, they'd think I'm just doing the school run. I also used to swim once a week and go to yoga class once a week. Now I need to walk around the village once a day instead, probably looking very conspicuous and aimless. To make me even more conspicuous I have DH and four DC with me. Today we needed bread and milk so stopped at the corner shop on our way home, DH stayed outside with the DC (underlying health issues) while I went in to get it but we also probably looked like those people where the whole family shows up to the shop.

My DD works in a large supermarket and some of the shoppers haven't liked being told to put items back if they've taken too many. One shopper threw coffee over the shop worker and another told the shop worker "I hope you get the virus and die!" (Not same shop worker each time)

What kind of person starts a post purely to shame and ridicule "idiots" for nothing worse than riding a bike too big for them? Seriously, what's the matter with you?

Mumsnet today is full of the baying crowds that would have been watching public floggings centuries ago

Asda shoppers LOVE to go there as a family outing, just love it, they spend all day there! Doesn’t happen so much anywhere else.

The tape round a nearby outdoor gym has been torn down at least twice so people can continue to use it. Metal fences have now appeared, and council has issued warning of fine or prosecution for anyone interfereing with that or any other barrier.

I mean, thus wasn't a 'should I or shouldn't i?' touch thus thing in the park. It was tearing down the sodding 'police do not cross' tape and ignoring the posters which said it as closed and why.

What an ignorant comment. Who are you to decide if he needs the mobility scooter or not? I must remind DD she must never get out of hers ever, otherwise we shall give it away to someone who obviously needs it.

Same here. I can’t believe it’s too difficult for people to get their heads round it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed with anyone who is using this lockdown to get fit.

My point was only that there was a woman struggling to ride a bike dressed very strangely and wearing flip flops. Why on earth flip flops, surely any shoe other than a stiletto would have been more appropriate.

@Mintymabel I read this as him being in a car, not a mobility scooter.

Another one here who is suddenly using the field for our exercise! I have a 17 month old little girl, we have a routine to keep me sane. After her nap we go for a walk in the field- would I have done that before? No. If probably have taken her to an expensive soft play or similar. And actually it’s taught me to enjoy the little things in life!

Where have you got mobility scooter from

I really didn't mean to be seen as pulling down anyone trying to keep fit, I apologise if it came across that way. I didn't intend to demean anyone trying to keep fit, I'm just agog at the very strange outfit choices.

“ One shopper threw coffee over the shop worker ”

😱😱😱😱

I hadn’t thought of that, but they should stop selling those things. And that shopper should be done for assault. Hope the worker is okay?

I had to re read your post a couple of times before it made sense. I was wondering who the hell all these 2 meter and 4.5 meter people are?!?!! Grin

MintyMabel It does not mention a mobility scooter. I took it to be a man driving a car.
