To wonder where the clap is for the rest of the key workers

I fully support the NHS. But where's the clap for the supermarket staff slogging their guts out completely at risk. The delivery drivers? The teachers the utility workers, police and every one who so far is bearing to brunt of this crisis. If you're one of those other keyworkers....I applaud you too, as much as the NHS.

I wish people could just not be like this ^

I appreciate everyone and clapped no one (I was busy bathing DD) but I don't think there is any need for a 'but what about....' moan.

oh come on......it can be for everyone can't it?
don't be stupid, retail workers are facing a bit of abuse not watching people die

Really?
I am so grateful to delivery drivers and shop workers, carers, teachers, postpersons and anyone else who is keeping the country going.
Hospital workers however, are on close proximity to patients with this disease. Knowing this and knowing the danger they are in, they still get up and go to work. They keep on in order to treat and save others. That deserves way more than a clap!!

Agree. The NHS are wonderful but there are far more other areas where, if they were to stop operating, we would be truly knackered. That said, the clapping thing was a FB thing wasn't it and not NHS organised ? And I'm 100% convinced that those in the NHS would, like everyone else working on the coalface, much prefer us to all obey the restrictions in force and stay the hell inside. Surely that is the best way to show your gratitude...

Clap for who you want it to be for? Surely it's a simple at that?

I'm sure everyone really appreciates any one that has to work currently. Most people I know are verbally very appreciative of shop staff and police officers, teachers etc who's working lives will probably become more difficult over the coming weeks.

Can I politely suggest that it may have been an opportunity for you to perhaps suggest some weekly national appreciation for all key workers? Appreciating NHS staff is not dismissing the efforts of others.

Yanbu. There’s lots of cogs that are turning to keep the country afloat.

Supermarket workers are unlikely to be dealing with people dying on a daily basis, so while I value the work they're doing, it's in no way comparable. Seeing up close what happens with the virus and knowing you could be next deserves more than clapping.

Sorry - I know it's not fashionable to say so these days but supermarket workers aren't comparable to NHS front line workers dealing with sickness and death every single day, working long hours dealing directly with scared, vulnerable, ill people. Nor should they be compared, what's the point?

& I also can't stand those new FB "I can't stay at home, I'm a Keyworker" show-off profile pic photoframes. It's telling that you never see NHS staff do all that.

Everyone wants a way to puff out their chest and pose as a hero nowadays. It's not supposed to be a competition is it. You can put out a call to clap for supermarket workers if you like, why don't you contact local community groups online.

Oh come on! Don’t be a misery guts...

And I just handed over (not physically, it was in the bags I had ordered!) a box of chocolates to the Sainsbury’s delivery man to thank for all their hard work Smile

The only reason the clap happened was because someone started it.

If you want to do a nice thing for someone, then do it!

You are allowed you know. Don’t sit around complaining no one is doing anything when you could be doing it.

Really?

You're like the men who complain on international women's day. Just don't be that person.

For me, it’s also about how the NHS has been torn apart for the last few years and yet still these people keep going. They will have to choose who lives and who dies because for the last decade, the Hospitals have been stripped of their resources. I only hope the appreciation is long term and transforms into decent pay and working conditions at some point in the future.

As far as I was aware, everyone was clapping for all frontline workers and not just the NHS

NHS workers are ones who are going to save your life, and are face to face with it. I appreciate all workers, but NHS are really the ones who deserve it at the moment.

Why can't people just be thankful.
Why does it always have to be more...

Obv we are all grateful for the rest of the key workers. I am key worker looking after the NHS workers children. I don't need a round of applause. I'm not risking my life to save others...

Fucking hell can we not just clap for the people who are actually around the virus all the time, watching people die, keeping others alive etc!

I appreciate the people who are working in supermarkets, police, fire (and every other person who actually is a key worker) but it doesn't mean they're sacrificing as much as them doctors and nurses are but if you need a clap hun here you go 👏 👏 👏

A group you never hear about is the people still working in DWP.

500,000 in a couple of weeks is hugh. Like all public services, they have been cut to the bone.

The next time you get the chance to vote, remember which party thought it was a good idea not to give HCPs a raise in ten yesrs, which party thought it a good idea to cut DWP while unemployment was rising, which party thought it a good idea to cut police forces to the bone. And vote accordingly.
