D(debatable)H made himself and son eggs yesterday for breakfast despite my slightly worried “have you counted how many we have?” He’s just cooked 4 more for himself and son leaving youngest and me (I’m always last to be thought of anyway) with none. I wanted to bake today. Eggs last longer in a cake right?! Grin. He’s so selfish with food. Just takes what he wants even if it’s the kids’ stuff. Never thinks to replace it or if it might be needed e.g. drinks all the milk then wonders why there isn’t any for coffee. He thinks I’m being a drama queen as he can just pop to shops. And this is why I’m stressed. I don’t want any of us going out unless we have to. And we don’t HAVE to if we eat sensibly. We had a huge row on Monday so I may still be harbouring rage about that. Tell me if any of you have selfish partners. I’m thinking about one previous OP whose OH ate all the treats and her posh biscuits.

There is no egg shortage- we need to be eating more eggs to keep farmers going. Less will be going to restaurants and possible food production.

This fat bastard thought this was going to be about Easter eggs 😭

Eating the remaining eggs for breakfast doesn't seem like any more 'selfish' a use than making a cake with them, to be fair. Are you maybe a bit wound up with worry and getting pissed off that he's not falling in line with your plans?

I don’t think it’s nice to eat the last of something without considering the other person. It would have been better if he’d said I’m making eggs for us, would you like one.

There is no shortage. You can get more today.

Sounds like there are other cracks in the relationship. Maybe have a chat today about it?

I eat 3 eggs for breakfast everyday. No one will dare tell me to stop. Anyway, not once have I had a missing item or sub in my shop from Ocado. No egg shortage there

I get it - my DH is similar with milk because we can just pop out to buy some more. Yes, we can but we should all be trying to limit the number of times we go out and only go out when needed. Him having 18 cups of tea a day and therefore needing more milk every couple of days defeats the point especially when I've been shopping and meal planning carefully to only need to go out for a few bits once a week.

"There is no egg shortage"

Can't get them for love nor money around here! They're the new bog roll!

My husband does this!! Will use all the milk for his breakfast and leave none for me or my sons cereal, he'll make his breakfast first and then decide to sort out our 3 yo.
Using all the eggs is selfish in my opinion, especially if he didn't even ask you if you wanted some.

YANBU. Even if things were normal (and eggs are definitely in short supply round my way), he should consider others in the house. There are four of you, not two, and he needs to act accordingly. There could have been one egg each, now you and your youngest have to go without.

I get it OP, everyone in a household needs to be aware of what food is earmarked for different things and be thoughtful at the moment. I would also be annoyed!

havent been able to get eggs here for a few weeks now... nor pasta or loo rolls or flour...

Cracks in the relationship- best pun ever!!
I know I’m just in a grump generally. Had he not got form for eating everything in sight I wouldn’t be as bothered. There’s a reason I like getting out the house!! Of course he can buy more and I’m very eggcentric in my cooking but could only add 1 box to Tesco shop. One box of 6! They’ll be gone by Friday.
Cake isn’t necessary but would use half an hour of the day yawning ahead of me ...

But presumably @OursonGuimauve everyone would be able to have some cake, not just half the household.

I always have semi skimmed milk in the freezer so we never have to pop out

I think you could find the next few weeks very difficult indeed OP, you're going to have to let things go if you're to survive this. He got up and made DS breakfast, just go with that.

Check out some vegan baking sites. There are lots of alternative for egg in cakes, some of which you will have in the house.

If eggs are going to be the breaker, stock up. They keep much longer than the dates suggest!

I can’t find eggs in any shop recently. They’re as scarce as pasta, soap & toilet rolls here.

Wonder why some areas can get eggs and some can’t ? I kept checking my shop to try and add more but no joy.

But what happens when you've used the frozen milk @BruceAndNosh? We have some too for emergencies but I don't count DH needing a massive bowl of porridge and endless tea as an emergency plus we're only three days into lockdown so it feels way too early to be dipping into the emergency stash.

We got some lovely eggs from our local farm ship shortly before we had to start isolating. My mums picking up a click and collect order for us today and I very much hope my eggs are in stock because I too would like to make a cake.

Eggs are like fucking gold dust round here!

Agree eggs last longer, to check put them in a bowl of water. If the sink and sit on the bottom they are fine. If they float they are bad.

Rumtopf · 26/03/2020 08:56

Are there any farm shops near you? I couldn't get eggs the other day from the supermarket so nipped to the extortionately expensive farm shop and got some from there.

That aside, yes it's bloody annoying! We have resorted to DH having his own mini fridge in his office. I stock that with cheese, deli meat, fruit etc and tell him if he wants anything else from the kitchen fridge to ask as it's probably part of a meal I've planned. It's not selfishness per se, just unthinking.

An egg sandwich uses less ingredients than a cake and doesn't use flour which you could use to make bread.

sounds like OP is hacked off because she can't "let them eat cake"?

Had it been sharing eggs more equally for breakfast, I'd get it, but seriously, OP wanted to bake and eggs last longer in a cake?

google egg free cake recipes if you want to bake - but nobody NEEDS cake.
