AIBU?

Probably petty as hell but AIBU? Diagram included!

Our brown bin was lost/stolen and I have ordered a replacement and waiting for it to come.

DC recently got a large birthday present that came in a tall cardboard box. I have put said box outside propped up against the wall in our back yard whilst I wait for the new bin as there was no where in the house for it and I don't have a car to tip it at the moment.

The yard at the back of our house is owned by us, it's in our title deeds but our neighbours have right of way to access their backdoor (diagram attached!).

My neighbour has taken it upon herself to move this cardboard, more than once, and literally stand it against our back door so it blocks the door/falls into the house whenever you open the door.

I have already explained that I'm waiting for a new bin so I can get rid of it just a few days ago. It's been out there for no more than 5 days.

I get it may be a bit of an eyesore but it is 100% not blocking their access when propped in-between our black bin and wall as per the picture.

As the yard is technically ours, AIBU for 1. Leaving it there until the bin comes and 2. Asking her to bloody leave it alone?! I'd understand if I'd shoved a load of rubbish into the middle of the yard and left it there for months but this is neatly tucked away and I've already explained why it's there!

Tell her it's on your property and to fuck off moving it! What did she say when you spoke to her?

Report
MuddlingMackem · 03/03/2020 20:29

Alternatively you could prop it against her back door . . .

Nothing, I could see her looking disapprovingly at it so I took something to the black bin and just explained, she just ahh'd and smiled and that was that!

Time to invest in a collection of garish gnomes OP. Asda even do 3ft ones.
Fill your courtyard with the happy little chaps!

This would be great but unfortunately I am, what one may call, a wimp! Sad

I'd place it back and if she moved it again politely knock on her door and remind her why it's there's whilst pointing out being positioned there it isn't blocking anyone's access. Ahem. Haha

Oooooo I could definitely get behind the more passive aggressive type retaliations Grin opens up Asda website in new tab

Regina, I usually would but I have no car at the moment so unless I literally walk 5 miles to the nearest one with a cardboard box taller than me, the best I can do is wait for my new bin 😖

If your too scared to approach her (I would be) put up a passive aggressive sign, advising anyone who moves cardboard is trespassing and is on camera doing so.

Did you miss the bit where op doesn't have a car? @reginafelangee

How bizarre. It couldn’t have blown around the yard in the wind and blocked access could it? Against your door is still very passive aggressive though isn’t it.

If it hasn’t blown around then YANBU!

I might get a few of those 3ft gnomes and line them up outside my backdoor as a sort of creepy deterrent. Guard gnomes.

It's not blown around to my knowledge. My kitchen window is facing directly out onto the yard and I pass by it regularly throughout the day, I've not seen it blown anywhere. But then tbf I've not caught my neighbour in action either.

Yanbu.

You should fence off an access path for your neighbour to prevent her accidentally seeing the disturbing sight of cardboard next to a bin. Use the giant gnomes suggested by Fuss as fence posts, with reclaimed barbed wire and naff bunting hung between them as a rail.

I’d be inclined to think your neighbour has more of a problem with you than your rubbish. Your bin was stolen and now your cardboard is being moved to an inconvenient place? I’d guess they took your bin as they have some gripe over rubbish or something. Only they have access through your garden. I’d get a sneaky little camera up to catch her out. Grin

If I were your neighbour I'd have just put it in my bin. Your neighbour sounds mean

Ozzie I'd not even considered that Shock What if she's the bin thief?

Go outside,
Make and maintain eye contact and set light to it.
Your box.

You earned it with the diagram.

If you're not up for direct confrontation, you could just write 'hello cunt, yes you at house no. 1' on the cardboard. Obviously somewhere it would only be seen if someone was moving it.

DH bought this one (not my pic I add). You can even chalk little signs on it. Ours currently says 'Gnome Pun Intended'. I keep hiding it because I detest the thing but it's not easy hiding a 3ft gnome...

To be fair though, it's only my black bin that stays in the yard. The others are on the outside of the yard you're not getting another diagram , so technically someone else could have taken it.

YANBU
She has right of way, which does not include the right to touch your property beyond that of gaining access.
