You were all so helpful last time that I thought I'd cracked the cipher that is the boots receipt, but no I'm baffled once more...
Items bought:
Meal deal
No 7 skin crap £18
Boots SSG conditioner 80p
Elvive shampoo 0.20p

Meal deal reduced to £1.99
£5 off No.7 Voucher
10% off with contacts scheme.

Now how does that work out to be £13.86?? HOW??!!

Another boots receipt....

Quite simple really, add up the numbers in the right hand column? Your No. 7 stuff is original price £18 but for some reason they have taken 10% off to give a basic price of £16.20. Mentions contact scheme save so maybe cashier has incorrectly applied a 10% discount to all goods that are supposed to be some kind of contact lens deal? Meal deal is not usually £1.99 so you have got a bargain there, not sure why that has messed up.

I get it as cming to less than £13.86

No 7 is reduce to £16.20, plus £5 off = £11.20
Meal Deal £1.99
80p item (whatever it is) is reduced to £0.72
£0.20 item
= £14.11
Less 10%
= £12.69

They've taken 10% off of everything before deducting the meal deal discount or the £5 voucher.

I don’t know op, but please keep buying things from Boots because these threads are very funny!

I don't think you'll get this one sorted.

Two of the items that have ten percent off don't actually have ten percent off...

Add up the first lot of items
£16.20 + £2.55 + £0.72 + £0.60 = £20.07

£5 voucher + £0.01 + £1.40 for meal deals = £6.41

£20.07 - £6.41 = £13.66

I get:
No 7 is £16.20
Conditioner 72p
Shampoo 20p
Meal deal £1.74
Adds up to £18.86, less the £5 voucher = £13.86

Meal deal is currently £1.99 if you spend more than £5...
V.annoying as has to be applied manually so cant go through self serve.
Teddy Blush they keep me occupied during boring afternoons...

18+1.99+0.8+0.2=20.99
20.99*0.9=18.89
18.89-5
13.89

The bottom part shows that it's taken £1.40 off for the meal deal instead of £1.38 for some reason, possibly taking the 10% off the full total instead of the £1.99. Extra 1p is probably rounding from somewhere.

Maybe put things through as separate transactions?

If you take out a Boots contact lens scheme and link it to your advantage card, you then get 10% off Boots own brand items whenever you shop

Amfeelingfline · 26/02/2020 15:49

Have you got a bus card linked to your account? That could be the 10% off?

Report
CoralFish · 26/02/2020 15:50

You've got 10% off all the stuff at the top with the contact lens deal, including sandwich and crisps.

The next bit:
I assume sprk iswt... whatever that is was your meal deal drink? For some reason no 10% off that, but the meal deal saving was £1.37 which more than cancels out the drink cost - so at this point it looks like your meal deal cost £3.15. It's usually £3.39 but you got the 10% off two of the items before the discount (i.e. discount was applied assuming you did not have 10% off), so you either are paying 10p too much or 25p too little depending on whether you were supposed to get the 10% off and the meal deal, unless drinks are randomly excluded from the 10% off, in which case it is correct. Anyway, that is sort of irrelevant because...

Next you've got your £5 off. Simples.

Then you've got your £1.40 saving to take your meal deal from £3.39 to £1.99... except you're only paying £3.15, so you're saving an extra 14p... which actually works out as a bit more than 10%.

But then you have your shampoo, which didn't get the 10% off for some reason (either mistake or exclusion).

The receipt adds up correctly after all this to £13.86

So if you added up what you should have spent and applied savings logically, you would expect:
£1.99 meal deal
£13(=18-5) for the skin care
£0.80 conditioner
£0.20 shampoo
= 15.99
90% of 15.99 (ie 10% off) = £14.39

So in conclusion, drink and shampoo did not have 10% off, but because they applied the 10% first to the other items, then took the other savings off (meal deal and meal deal reduction) as if you had paid full price, you paid £13.86.

Done!

Omg that was such a long post. Do I get a prize?

Although I had to google the meal deal cost normally, so if I am wrong on that someone else can have a go.

I made it £13.66 based on the receipt.

Report
horsemadgal · 26/02/2020 16:15

You saved an extra 5p on your meal deal ie. £1.74 instead of £1.79 (£1.99 less 10%) because they took the 10% off the original prices.

horsemadgal · 26/02/2020 16:17

Alsohuman there's a 20p Elvive shampoo at the very bottom, quite faint.

I originally made it £13.66, but missed the shampoo at 20p(!). That said, it is bloody complicated!

Is it your birthday ? 10% off everything you buy in your birthday month at the moment.

Hobbycraft make things complicated. I had a £5 off voucher and they reduced everything on the receipt instead of just putting £5 paid in as a voucher Confused.

I am obviously missing out because I never read my boots receipts I shall be in future. There always seem to be so many offers I get thoroughly confused. Then the advantage card gets involved. I end up leaving just glad I got the things and no idea what just happened.
