Aggressive dad in car park

I don’t think I am but let me know what I should have done ....
Met my DS 13 in a local swimming pool car park earlier to take him home after school. Parked up and stood outside car so he could see me. He was walking towards me past a parked car and an empty space. A car shot into the empty space just as he was about to step past it but thankfully my DS caught it out of the corner of his eye and stopped in time.
The car driver was going around a corner quite fast as shot into the Space and my DS thankfully caught him coming and hopped back quickly.I held my breath as the driver shot into the space. My DS wasn’t hurt.
As I walked towards my DS the male driver got out and I said to him in a calm and controlled voice that he ought to be more careful as he was going too fast in car park and that had he realised my son was there. I honestly spoke calmly and in no way aggressively.
The abuse I got back was beyond disgusting he told me to F off / c..t / all manner of aggressive statements - all in front of his wife and two primary aged children. I continued into the swimming reception to pay for some lessons where he kept turning back for more abuse and accused me of staring at him - it was really upsetting.
I just keep thinking if he is like this in public what must he be like at home.

I would’ve took down his reg and reported him. Hope you are okay.

I would have done the same. He's an insecure bloke who can't cope with being criticised in front of other people. His family is probably used to it.

To be honest I was shaking by the time I got to the reception - I have got his registration number but not sure what to do with it. There are cameras at the pool too and I did mention it to the reception.
He was so aggressive that I would be worried about any come back.
My DS has just mentioned he shook his fists at him after he pulled up in the space - he clearly knew what he had done.

Maybe worth reporting to the police? If it is on CCTV it might show he was driving without due care and attention or something.

Please report his verbal abuse to the police and say that he did all this in front of his young children.

What a horrible bully!

Streamside Mon 24-Feb-20 17:12:36

It may constitute assault or maybe you just want to forget about it and accept that some people have no manners

Aloe6 Mon 24-Feb-20 17:14:38

Report him to the police. He sounds like a horrible bully.

Finfintytint Mon 24-Feb-20 17:17:08

Some men are like this and cannot stand being challenged about their behaviour. God help the women and children in his life.
TBH , unless you can genuinely show you feared for your safety the police are unlikely to do much.
Last man I challenged about their behaviour broke my leg. Be careful.

I had a similar incident with an aggressive man. He’d been in the wrong and I pulled him up on it. He shouted that I must be “one of those women who hate men”. I was about to tell him I wasn’t, but I was sure he thought he met a lot of women like that.

Then I glimpsed his wife, holding a child’s hand, who was standing behind him shaking her head with terror in her eyes. I read this to mean she would be paying for it later if I stood up to him, so I let it go.

I hope she found the strength to leave the inadequate bastard eventually.

I’d let it go if I were you OP. You’ve behaved with dignity and can now walk away. It’s really not worth pursuing, he wouldn’t get much punishment and you’d have a load of worry.

He’ll pick on the wrong person one day.

Thank you everyone. I just was so shocked at the amount of abuse and aggression. I am scared of what he could do and any come back on me or my family. We live in a small and rural town where people always know someone .

Shopkinsdoll Mon 24-Feb-20 17:30:53

Report to the police. Don’t let the ignorant feck get away with that!!!

bobbieflekman Mon 24-Feb-20 17:31:36

You were in the right OP but just be thankful you aren't married to someone like this.

PersephoneandHades Mon 24-Feb-20 17:31:40

Definitely report him! He could seriously hurt someone if his dangerous behaviour goes unchecked

dottiedodah Mon 24-Feb-20 17:31:55

Sounds absolute Bell end ! What a ghastly excuse for a man .I too would be scared to report as well .Maybe let it go by . The way he carries on someone else is bound to report him anyway!

Cherrysherbet Mon 24-Feb-20 17:34:04

Nasty piece of work.

atomicblonde30 Mon 24-Feb-20 17:37:18

Men like this never act in this manner around other blokes, just women. Snivelling little coward.

Basilandparsleyandmint Mon 24-Feb-20 17:39:36

I agree he is just awful - his poor wife just had her head down and the children just looked at each other. I just can’t stop thinking about it but just scared for any come back.

Nowayorhighway Mon 24-Feb-20 17:40:00

YANBU, he sounds like a total bellend.

dustibooks Mon 24-Feb-20 17:43:22

Just thank your lucky stars you aren't married to him.

PumpkinP Mon 24-Feb-20 17:47:39

The police won’t do anything. I reported a man who threatened to head butt me and the police weren’t interested.

Elderflower14 Mon 24-Feb-20 17:48:30

Report him.. Think of how many more people he will do that you.. Think how scared he made you and your son feel...

Straycatstrut Mon 24-Feb-20 17:49:44

Thank god your DS wasn't hurt - but it just makes me wonder about this mans reaction if he HAD have been... would he have blamed you?!

People like this are disgusting. I have so much crap in my life right now, as depressed as it's possible to be and I feel very envious of people with a lovely family life, but I'd never act like this towards anyone!

RantyAnty Mon 24-Feb-20 17:49:49

His poor wife and DC.

One time I said something to a woman who was driving like that. She left loose with filthy verbal abuse too in front of her DC and in the carpark of a nursery school.
