AIBU?

To think the male American Airlines passenger punching the reclined seat should be charged with assault if legally possible.

I have watched the video of the man continually punching the seat occupied by Wendi Williams who had positioned it to recline. I am totally appalled that she was not given assistance when she drew the flight attendants attention to her predicament. This mans behaviour was totally unacceptable. I find it hard to fathom his behaviour and really feel a bit disturbed by it. I don't think he would have acted this way had it been a man in front... Am I being unfair in thinking this?

I agree. The same thing happened to DH on a BA flight and the flight attendant did nothing as well.

if There were spaces they should have moved the lady who’s seat was being punched - ideally up a class. But doing nothing is disgraceful

Just watched the video, he didn't punch her seat he was pushing it and making it wobble, no big punches. He was an idiot but didn't assault her. The crew should have intervened but he certainly didn't need arresting....

I watched the video as well and can’t believe that the staff allowed him to behave like this.

Ok it is not great when someone reclines and you lose space but his argument should be with the airline who sell reclining seats not the person who buys they and expects to use what she has purchased.

Why wasn't that woman told to put her seat up and respect other passengers in the first place?

That would have solved all the problems.

I am appalled passengers are not given any assistance when they have to put up with rule and inconsiderate behaviour like that.

It's not like anyone puncher her....

If it's the video that I watched, she carries on bouncing back and forth in the chair when his hands are still and resting his lap, which would lead me to believe that having reclined her chair while he is eating, she is then bouncing in order to make it look like he's punching the back of the chair.

She started filming as he punched it hard initially, he then resorted to the low level punching seen.

I'm not asking for a debate on the rights and wrongs of reclining. It's his behaviour I find menacing and shocking.

The video only tells part of what happened in that situation. The link above only tells her version of events.

Also, she reckons she has whiplash Confused

But nobody has disputed her recount of events have they.

What is shocking is that she carried on with her seat and try to play the victim when she was in the wrong, and she refused to change her ways.

What a horrible woman. I felt sorry for that guy when I saw the video.

Yes from the hard punches that occurred prior to her filming. Why the lol? Would you find this amusing if it happened to you.

I've watched the video and he didn't punch the seat he kept nudging it. Still passive aggressive behaviour though.
I'm torn he was stuck right at the back and couldn't recline his so must have felt trapped but that was no excuse for behaving like a tit.

She agreed to not recline whilst he ate but only gave him ten minutes to eat his meal before she reclined which I think was a bit shitty to be honest.

Ultimately the blame lies with the airlines for packing everyone in like cattle.

Do people really need to recline their seat for less than 2 hour flight? Apparently he asked her not to 10 min before...
FBI, really

Why leave it upto a passenger to decide if a seat should recline or not? Everyone has different morals as to what is right or wrong, there should simply not be a recling seat if it causes problems, if it does recline then it should be reclined without repercussions, airlines fault, don't blame airline staff for not getting involved in petty things like this, although it is technically there job to ensure passengers comfort.

and you know that... how? No need to play the female card when you are clearly in the wrong.

I'm not sure why airline seats are even made to recline.
They should be welded upright.
