AIBU?

...to think a hot cross bun is a snack?

I just love them. Buttered and sandwiched back together or toasted and buttered. In place of a cookie/crisps/slice of cake as a snack. DH thinks they’re a sandwich alternative and should be filled with cheese or jam and eaten with crisps/fruit etc as part of a meal.

They are a brilliant snack - best toasted with proper butter but I also put them in the kids lunches just sliced and spread cold

And who puts cheese or jam on hot cross bun? Is he ok?

They are a snack or something sweet after you’ve had a sandwich!

Best with a cup of tea about 3pm

I’ve occasionally had one or two for breakfast if I’m in a rush...

My DP eats them with dairylea spread on Envy. I was horrified when I found out.

They’re a snack not a sandwich.

You’re both right depending on my mood.

Also, I know I’ll get so many disgusted comments but they’re amazing with bacon in them... don’t fire your disgust at me before you try it!

Whaaaat? Definitely not as a savoury sandwich. Toasted with butter or jam as breakfast, snack, high tea but definitely not with cheese.

Aldi did a rhubarb and custard hot cross bun last year that was delicious! My waistline is very happy they haven't got them this year!

YABU. They are a breakfast item, sliced in half and buttered.

They’re really nice toasted with crispy streaky bacon and poached eggs on for breakfast. But yeah, they’re usually a snack.

I like them for breakfast, toasted and buttered.

Either a snack or maybe a dessert.

I read that as Cheese and Ham and was appalled.

Ltb.

I would suggest giving him another chance if he was suggesting a hot cross bun could also be part of a meal containing multiple hot cross buns. But fruit and jam? You deserve better.

Just also as a public service announcement the Saino’s triple berry ones are not nice. They taste like fake berry cheap shower gel.

It’s a snack, best when Hot out the oven, on its own not even buttered with a cup of tea is best. The jam
Sounds horrid.

My ex used to have it with cheese as it’s very similar to West Indian bun, which is traditionally eaten with cheese, but I don’t like sweet and savoury together so I would still look at it with disgust even though it was something I grew up with.

I'd have them as lunch, in place of a sandwich. But not with sandwich fillings etc. A couple toasted with plenty of butter, and then maybe crisps for afters.
I've always had sunday roasts comparatively late (4/5pm) so it's a great sunday 'lunch' when you want something to tide you over but not quite a snack.

I put cheese on somethimes, I'd never use jam, far too sweet. I will sometimes have one for lunch, the big ones are too big for a snack but you can buy the small ones, 9 in a pack, they're OK as a snack.
