AIBU?

To be mildly annoyed that some pubs can’t get their head around the fact that even though this is a wedding I’m trying to book, it’s a small affair!

I live in a lovely area with some stunning pubs.

I’m having the tiniest of weddings, want to head off to a local afterwards, handful of family coming along.

Manager of one lovely pub, ‘don’t really cater for weddings’doesn’t know what corkage is, thinks we’ll be pissed off dining with the ‘regulars’ Hmm
Another pub in the area is far more accommodating and knows what they’re talking about but this young manager (and I’m not being ageist here) doesn’t seem to have a clue. Such a shame as the venue is stunning!
I wish I’d just asked to book a table and rock on up!

This ain’t no bridezilla but pubzilla! Why do people fall apart the minute you mention ‘wedding’!Hmm

Then you don’t mention wedding.

Ask for a private corner for a family gathering X no. Of people.

Ask for whatever food they normally serve etc and you should be fine.

It's a bit cheeky to take your own booze to a pub is it not?

I agree with others, just don't mention wedding.

Just ring them back. Book a table for however many you want.

PotteringAlong · 27/01/2020 17:54

But I agree about the corkage. Buy their booze.

the reason they are nervous because most brides turn into total monsters about their utterly perfect day of a lifetime. And also switch off their brains so can be charged a fortune.

yes, just book a table for a meal and turn up as long as you aren't in the giant frilly frock which may be a giveaway.

^What? You want to take your own alcohol to a pub????? Hmm

The other pub was fine with corkage and gave me a price straight away.

It would only be for a couple of bottles of fizz, not like we’re rocking up with crates of larger etc

When I enquired about hiring a room it was £200 for a party of up to 60. Then when I said it was a wedding meal/gathering for a wedding they said it was £500....errr no.

You can't bring alcohol to a pub! But agree with the other points about not mentioning a wedding

Definitely don't mention weddings and why would you want to take your own alcohol to a pub?

We’ll be buying plenty of booze etc

Just to make this clear, we asked about bringing a couple of bottles of champagne and this was fine in one pub.

We had this. Very small wedding. 10 people including us.

My problem was finding somewhere nice for a sit down meal. That would accept we’d be getting married somewhere else!!

Everywhere we phoned. Wanted us to do the whole kit and kaboodle.

That's cheaper than it was 6 years ago around here.Good price.

Anytime you mention wedding, the price goes up. I'd love to do an experiment to.orgsnise one without mentioning it's a wedding just to see how much the cost compares.

We just booked a table at a restaurant and made no mention of weddings!

Report
vikkimoog · 27/01/2020 18:17

I just ordered a table for 14 at the very posh place we went to.
No mention of wedding though rocking up in a bride's dress carrying just married balloons rather gave the game away but they didn't bat an eyelid
