AIBU?

to bin this 'friend'?

DS (6) has a new 'friend'. I'm not impressed. AIBU if I bin this 'friend'?

New 'friend' is called Piney and is a lump of pineapple. All Piney's siblings got eaten, but Piney is special. Piney sleeps in the fridge but likes to watch DS playing games on his xbox. DS like to talk to him.
Last night DS cried because Piney couldn't sleep in his bed with him. Piney has been here for almost a week now. Do I bin him?

Bear in mind that DS is autistic and his actual bestie emigrated last month and he's really missing him. Piney is a rebound friend.

Oh no! I have no advice at all. Move his attention onto a stuffed toy if at all possible?!

Aw, have been thinking today I need some new, better friends. What a sweet story, made me smile.
Could you replace Piney for a fresh pineapple? Or don’t jellycat do some vegetable soft toys?

Is it a pineapple lump? Because if so, fresh supplies could be purchased via the SANZA website. . .

Piney had to go away but has sent this to keep your DS company?

Could Piney be surreptitiously replaced with a fresh replacement bit of pineapple every few days? If DS notices any differences you could say Piney is growing just like he is? or would that be even worse, with you ending up having to sneakily replace pineapple for the next decade? Yes, probably not the best strategy after thinking a bit more. Sure this thread will have a good idea though.

I'm sorry he is missing his friend. Poor DS and Piney. It sounds very sweet.

I actually just had a better idea than my last one Blush Has he read the Velveteen Rabbit?

DS really really loves Piney so eventually if he wishes hard enough, Piney may turn into a toy that can stay with him forever? (Sort of the reverse of the Velveteen Rabbit though, and your DS may very much disapprove of Piney changing anyway, I understand)

I think your last sentence about his best friend emigrating is important too and might be a reason for the new attachment so making up a social story might help him out too?

Tell him Piney has to go, or he'll infest the house with insects and they'll eat you all alive as you sleep.

I empathise - my aspie son befriended a watermelon once. We had to make a papier maché replacement for Melony. Now whenever he asks for a watermelon in the supermarket, he adds "I promise I won't make friends with it this time!" I think a Jellycat pineapple is a wonderful idea! Wish I'd thought of that.

I think I must be pre-menstrual/menopausal/fucked up, I cried at your post! Poor piney, poor DS.

I also cried at Call the Midwife, but that's a usual occurrence.

'Plant' Piney and let him evolve into Jellycat.

DD once adopted a coconut on holiday. She dressed it in a sarong and carried it with her everywhere.

With her usual style she named it "Coconutty"

We had a to get a woman at Reception-with our efforts to convey story in the local language- to adopt Coconutty. Every picture of DD on that holiday features her!!

As adoption not an option I love the cuddly toy in it's place.
