I know this might sound really weird but i am. She is a lovely kind and considerate lady. Her hubby is v ill in hospital with heart attack and it was my birthday last week. Needless to say, she forgot - today i get a card saying so sorry its late and ÂŁ20 in an envelope! As if she didnt have enough to worry about.

She brought up my DP so that cant be bad, considering that he is the most considerate person i know and she never ever puts herslef first. EVER.

Of course, she does my head in, she faffs for England (now i know where DP gets if from), she irons socks FFS and EVERYTHING else. She has very different views on childcare than i do and would probably wind me up if i had to have too much input from her. She is a like a rotweiller with a bone over often petty things, i have often said to DP - don't mention that to your mum when we visit - as i know that she will not let it go and i will be almost mad with boredom by the time we leave over her ranting about being short changed in the post office. She thinks you should put butter on a burn, she thinks its ok for children to eat chocolate until it comes out of their ears, its ok to have Ribena in a bottle and probably has a secret supply of giant suasage rolls and is like Mrs Doyle when it comes to hospitality "no really MIL ten cups of tea were fine, no, actually we have just eaten (because you cant cook!) so we don't really have room for your soggy fish paste sandwiches, no its ok DD doesnt really need that packet of wotsits - ah, go on go on, you will you will ad nauseum.

BUT i will forgive her all that, i find it quite endearing, cos she is blardy lovely my MIL.

I really, really like my MIL too.

We get on great and she's totally supportive, never gets involved unless we ask her to babysit, good fun, cool, etc etc. I can't fault her. Been on a family holiday with her and everything and still love her!

I'll register my ILs here too

they are incredibly generous with money, always interested in me, dh and lo, always chilled. The only thing is sometimes they want to help so much it can get a little wearing - but if you say "no thanks" they are totally fine with that too.

when my dad died my FiL, a curmudgeonly northerner ex-soldier, started hugging me. They are quite simply thoroughly decent, down-to-earth people, and I am honored to know them.

My MIL fab too - see other MIL thread!

Perhaps I am so fond of her as I know what she went through with FIL being such a selfish prick for so many years. (I won't rant but could so so for hours!!Anyway he's dead now - GOOD!!)

Needless to say she had a LOT to put up with and he totally knocked her confidence for life, and stopped her from doing SO many things she woud have loved to do.

Despite all the crap she went through she is still an amazing person. Totally selfless. I suppose she was so used to HIS wants having to come first!

I am very fond of my MIL and my children adore her which goes to show. I have gradually got used to her over the years. There are still small things that irk me, she will not drive here, for instance so usually only sees the children at weekends, but if SIL comes over, she is straight in the car with her! And needing to have arrangements set in stone several weeks in advance. This is sometimes awkward for me because my parents are the total opposite to an annoying degree so can make sorting things like Mother's Day out, rather awkward. But these are small things in the scheme of things.

My MIL is lovely, it's my FIl that's a pain in the rear. She's busy knitting me cute baby things. She such a lovely kind hearted person, as well as being a champion knitter - she often knit things for local chairty shops. Her only flaw is her lack of road sense, she has nearly killed herself wandering into the road without looking - once she had dss with her, lucky me and dh grabbed them both out of harm's way! DSS is far more road aware than she is (he's only 6, bless him!) and so we tell him he has to take care of grandma crossing the road lol.

I too get on well with my pil's and ds loves them especially mil. They have their faults and I think I would find it tricky if we lived too close to them as I think mil could be pretty demanding but all in all I think I am very lucky with what I have got! I moan about them sometimes but compared to a lot of people I think I am very lucky and that not getting on 100% all the time is probably normal!

And mil always goes out of her way to make sure I know she is doing everything I have asked for for ds (even though she's not very good at saying no to him) and I really really value that.

They're very very occasionally a pain in the butt, but then isn't everyone? I'm very fond of mine really.

My MIL is a funny old thing and at times, drives me nuts. She is the most illogical person ever to speak to and jumps around all over the place in conversation. BUT...she is a super duper splendiforous Grandma, and that is the most important thing.

She's lots of fun (she even gets stuck in and climbed around soft play areas when dc were younger and needed help) and would do anything for her grandchildren.

She plays and plays with them and takes them all over the place and finds really interesting things to do with them. Regular as clockwork she has had all three of them once a week - even dt's when they were babies, which I know was hard work for her.

I know, because I used to slump with exhausted gratitude when she took them all away from me for the day when they were all very tiny.
