To be feeling so down about not being engaged still

Me and DP have been together for 5 years and have a child together.. we have a mortgage together also and basically live as though we're married. We've talked about getting married for years and he has said numerous times "if I had the money for a ring I'd of already proposed to you by now" well we have the money and have done for a while and every opportunity or 'special day' such as birthday, anniversary etc I've assumed I'd get a ring but haven't had one.. This year we've had the money and he's been doing loads of over time and definitely has the money to buy a ring, I assumed I would be getting one for Christmas.. I feel really stupid that he never proposed because I just had it in my head that he would.. I was so convinced it would be at Christmas that I was so nervous on the days leading up and Christmas because I just thought he was going to propose. Once Christmas Day was over and I realised it wasn't happening I've just felt quite down since.. I know I sound really stupid but I think it's because I've let my imagination run away with me.. There's been so many hints and I'm just confused like for example about a month ago me and DP we're talking about a ring that he'd brought me years ago, I was saying how I need it fixed because of a small diamond falling out of it and he randomly came out with "I bet you don't know what your ring size is now do you?" He then asked to look at the ring and put it on his baby finger whilst he was looking at it.. AIBU to be feeling so down about this or am I just being really silly? We have nothing planned in the near future So I just really thought Christmas would be the perfect opportunity.. I'm being silly arn't I I just need to speak about it to a bunch of strangers so I don't look like a moaning cow if I mention it to him or anyone in person..
