Primary school had a fake vote yesterday (only KS2 voted)

They voted in majority for the Green Party...

Today was Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper today.

Usually they get crackers with their dinners but were told today that because over half of them voted in the Green Party they wouldn't be getting crackers with their dinner.

Aibu to think the school shouldn't have done this? Seems a bit mean to me 🤷‍♀️

Probably the school didn’t want crackers because of the environment and felt the pupils would agree and this has been twisted.

This is great! Our primary school didn’t have them either as the eco council put forward a motion not to have them. Gives me such hope that little kids can at least have some sense of their impact on the environment. Wish more of us adults could! Party bags are going the same way. Kids round here often don’t have them now because of the unnecessary ‘stuff’ for the sake of it, often plastic.

My DC's school also had no crackers this year. I think it's a good thing. Let's face it, they're a massive waste for a second's worth of fun.

I totally get kids need to build awareness of environmental issues but they voted in green for the environment and then the way it was handled left them feeling a bit disappointed and they instantly regretted it... maybe the school could have had an environmentally friendly handmade alternative like some paper hats and jokes etc as I think that's what the kids were mainly hoping for really.

How much pleasure do you actually think children get from pulling crackers? At my school every single year we fill nearly three bin bags just with crackers. 90% of the shit that comes in them (as obviously the PTA buys the cheapest ones they can find because all schools are so poor now) is left on the table, just to be scooped straight in the bin.
On a scale of 1-10 how upset do you really think your child is over this? On the same scale, how important is the lesson they have all learned due to this? And then please, have a word with yourself.

@MiniMum97 yes that's exactly what I think... teach a lesson for sure but I know my kids were left disappointed and felt guilty... my dd is really conscientious with environmental issues and points out ways we can lessen our impact but like you say... a bit of balance would have been better imo

Personally I think it's a fab idea provided they follow up on it and explain that either the kids knew about it from the manifesto or even (perhaps for older kids) it was written down but not publicised. It's a fair lesson I think.

I think to say 'no crackers this year because of the environment' is fine... I agree... total waste really...

But to say it's because of the kids that voted for Green is whats got me I think.

I'm impressed!
It never ceases to amaze me how environmentally aware some of today's children are (all credit in my son's case to his teachers). They have campaigned for plastic reduction and I am regularly informed about the state of the world's oceans.
