Your best cold remedies

Can I ask you for your best cold remedies? OTC, herbal, any old sh*te, I’ll take it if you tell me it works!

We seem to have had 2 different colds/coughs in the past 5 weeks, have only been clear a week and now we have another!!!!!!

I’m going out on a long awaited BNO on Sat and I desperately do not want to cancel. I’ll probably be over the worst, but what do you recommend taking to;

a) feel well enough to enjoy b) not be wiping my nose every 5 minutes and c) not look like crap

Thank you!

Apparently chewing raw garlic can help.. no kisses under the mistletoe though 😉

I have swallowed whole cloves of garlic before. Don't plan on talking to anyone for the next 24 hours though.

I feel your pain. I have been either ill or tired from being ill since October.

Also make a soup with lots of chilli and garlic and ginger.

Lots of water
Alternate taking paracetamol and Ibrupofen two hourly throughout the day
Sleep when you can
Minimising congestion usually helps the lurgy pass faster so regularly use Vicks, boiling water steam bowls etc

Night nurse day and night capsules from the pharmacy counter are the only thing that help me. And plenty warm fluids and rest!

For an old cold Royal Jelly.

Starting a cold - Coldzyme, cannot recommend this enough, it can prevent a cold and definitely shorten one if you take it the moment you feel it coming. Only backdraw, it's pricy.

Feel better soon.

Home made chicken soup with lots of garlic.
I base mine on this. Have never done matzo balls and add ginger.

@Madambee I've never heard of that, is it really good? I'm always looking for something to have in the house for the first signs of a cold!

I use Vicks First Defence which is quite good, is it better than that?

@Madambee I am all about the cold enzyme I just haven’t been on it enough. The first cold back in Nov it seemed to delay then when it finally came out it wasn’t so bad but then developed into a nasty cough.

I didn’t even have chance with this one. Sneezed a few times yest but felt well. Burny feeling in my nose around 10pm last night so did some sprays. Absolutely streaming by 9:30 this morning!!!! Came from nowhere!

@SpiderCharlotte

I normally get a cold even if thinking about one Grin. This has really really helped me Smile. You got to be fast when you feel it coming, but I usually use it as prescribed for three days (every 2 hour and one before bed) and it works 90% of the times. My dd catches colds very easily when stressed and it has worked for her as well.

But if you are going to try it, I recommend you do an online search. Prices differ a lot.

Paracetamol, decongestants, hydration, rest.

Vicks or Sinex nose spray eases congestion really fast and stops the constant nose wiping. Paracetamol for any headaches or other aches. Squeeze a lemon, grate some ginger, add honey and hot water to help your throat.

A dose of elderberry syrup each day has been amazing for me in preventing colds! Enjoy your night out!

@Wholewheelofbrie
Sorry x posted.

Try the royal jelly, it's quite common where I'm from. Don't know how easily accessible it is in UK. But for me it seems to work with a long coughing cold.

Hot foot bath with a tbsp of mustard, as hot as you can stand it.

Steam head with tea towel over it with hot water and drop of Vicks in it.

Hot whiskey with sugar/lemon & cloves.

Immunace multi-vitamins to ward off any more :)

There are these Lemsip tablets with paracetamol in them which really are great to support you be more alert so ideal for going out.
Vicks rub on chest and feet before going to bed, lavender drops on the pillow, drink loads of water throughout the day, overdose on effervescent Vit C+Zinc tablets, fresh air, take good quality honey regularly throughout the day, soup (chicken bones with whole garlic, halved onions, fresh herbs, chunks of root vegetables - simmer for at least an hour, use a sieve to remove all the bits and drink warm throughout the day), at least one very long night sleep. No idea if any of these does anything but that’s my plan of attack and it works pretty fast like I feel great the next day. I haven’t had to take any time off work with cold or flu all my adult life so far.

Benylin Day and Night Cold tablets. They are witchcraft. Especially the blue night ones which knock you out.
