Morning 'beeping' etiquette

A neighbour a couple of doors down gets picked up Mon-Fri between 6.15-6.30am each morning.

The person that picks him up beeps his car horn three times in quick succession, beep-beep-beep, presumably to let him know he's there.

While I'm glad it doesn't happen at 5am, personally I wouldn't beep my car horn in the morning outside a residential street.

AIBU to feel it's inconsiderate?

Illegal use of a horn.
I would be putting a note through the door tbh.

YANBU. That is a very inconsiderate time to be beeping. Even though lots of people may already be up and about.

Apolloanddaphne Tue 03-Dec-19 07:58:21

That's too early for beeping. You would think the car person could text the house person

AlwaysCheddar Tue 03-Dec-19 07:58:54

Too early, too selfish.

GiveHerHellFromUs Tue 03-Dec-19 07:59:10

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use your horn in a residential area before 7:30am or after 11pm.

Monkeychunkyfunky Tue 03-Dec-19 07:59:38

That is inconsiderate. I sometimes get a lift at 5am and either keep looking out the window until they arrive or they text me. I would ask if they could stop with the beeping it's not great at that time.

When the van nd to us was waking us up at 610 my dh emailed the company.
Soon stopped.

Unnecessary use of horn. It should only be used to alert other road users of your presence.

V bad! Don’t think I’d be able to resist having a word with the driver.

PurpleDaisies Tue 03-Dec-19 08:04:42

In the age of phones, why in earth are they doing this?!

GruciusMalfoy Tue 03-Dec-19 08:07:04

That's too early.

They’re breaking the law.

It's been going on for over a year now, those particular neighbours are not friendly so I'd be worried about their reaction by bringing it up. sad

I'm relieved it's not just me being over sensitive! I wasn't sure if after 6am was a reasonable enough time but then like I said, I wouldn't be doing it.

covetingthepreciousthings Tue 03-Dec-19 08:09:54

This ^

Why don't you suggest they call them instead or text..

emilybrontescorsett Tue 03-Dec-19 08:11:12

It is illegal use of his horn. I agree with Winter put a note through their door.

TooTrueToBeGood Tue 03-Dec-19 08:11:24

Horns are for safety reasons only, not for saying hi to your pal, expressing anger or telling your carshare you're outside. Any time of the day is unreasonable for improper use but 6:30 am is completely out of order. I'd be having a strong word in person if it was habitual.

Ginfordinner Tue 03-Dec-19 08:12:05

It's illegal before 7 am

Biancadelrioisback Tue 03-Dec-19 08:12:47

In which case OP, pop an unsigned note through the door

Likethebattle Tue 03-Dec-19 08:14:48

This is why taxi companies now text you. They used to beep to let you know but it’s not how a horn is meant to be used.

Ginfordinner Tue 03-Dec-19 08:20:33

Our regular taxi company always text

BillHadersNewWife Tue 03-Dec-19 08:28:44

take the reg of the car and report it. They won't know who did it.

PlanDeRaccordement Tue 03-Dec-19 08:36:42

Ah, I would not care. Not worth turning neighbours against you to complain.

amusedbush Tue 03-Dec-19 08:38:30

I was annoyed when someone blasted their horn at 8am on Sunday morning, so the back of 6 would see me apoplectic grin

Seriously though, I don't know how you've managed to let this go for so long, you're a better person than me! They are so inconsiderate.

Brimful Tue 03-Dec-19 08:44:34

Seriously though, I don't know how you've managed to let this go for so long

After trying everything to block the noise of the beep-beep-beep from waking me up (nothing worked) I now use it as my alarm...

And I just hoped it would end! I'm getting more pissed off because it's inconsiderate. It's not the worst thing in the world, but some people don't seem to give a fuck about their actions anymore.
