AIBU?

Or is my friend regarding evening meal times?

We’re in conflict about what time of day most people eat their evening meals.

She thinks that your last meal of the day should be around 6:30pm, with anything after 7 being far too late.

I think around 8pm is normal, and anything before 7 is far too early.

For context, neither of us have kids, and both start work at 9am.

Who IBU?

Me - YABU, anything after 7pm is too late
Her - YANBU, anything before 7pm is too early

I don’t think either of you are BU. Surely it’s just down to everyone as individual to do what works for them. 🤷🏻‍♀️

In my household the children eat around 4pm and adults usually from 8pm. If DH is away I will eat with the children though.

Both of you are unreasonable, for imagining there is a set time where other people "ought" to be eating.
What is all this "should be"?
Can people not simply eat when they are hungry?

Well yes, the police won't come and arrest you or anything.

But what is 'normal' to you?

Pre-DC we used to eat between 8-9pm. But we both worked long and irregular hours so this would have been our earliest opportunity to sit and eat (on the nights where we were both actually home for dinner). Nowadays DH works from home, I’m a SAHM and we eat insanely early because it’s important to us that we eat as a family with the children. So usually around 5-5:30pm.

It is all personal preference. I eat at between 5.30-6.30 because I have to take medication in the early evening. My Sister and Brother in Law wait until their 2 year old is in bed asleep so after 7. My Auntie used to work shifts so thinks nothing of waiting until 9.30 to eat her evening meal.

In our house we eat around 6-6:30pm. Get in from work around 5:30, if we ate much later I'd struggle getting daughter into bed for around 8pm.

I live by myself, and aim to eat at 8pm.

When DD is home from university, it is more like 7pm (her choice).

5.30-6.00 here

Around 8 works for us as we can manage in one sitting after work/ activities. The DCs have a light tea around 4-5 to keep them going.

There isn't a right or wrong answer although I find that the advantage of eating later is that I'm not tempted to eat later on.

On Monday I had dinner at 12.30, and a sandwich at 7pm
Yesterday I had dinner at 9pm
Today I had dinner at 6.30
Tomorrow I'm likely to have dinner at 6pm

If I ate at 5 I’d be starving again by bedtime and would snack. I eat all meals ‘late’, breakfast at 10ish, lunch at around 2 and dinner at 8.

We eat between 7 and 8. Where we live (US) people think this is shockingly late. Nearly everyone else eats at 5-6 as far as I can make out. DH doesn't even come home until 7 or later most nights. I"m going to a thing tonight that is over at 7. We'll eat at 745 when I get home. I can pretty much guarantee that everyone else there will ahve already eaten dinner.

Your first post doesn't make sense with who I choose to be unreasonable......you did a 180 on who thinks what, so how can we choose?

Don't agree with either. 6pm is ideal
