AIBU?

What could this be? Money related

NC for this.

I’m going through old statements to sort out some financial bits. Statement of partners from last year. There are a few transactions I can’t understand.

Money comes in from ‘Hillside Sports GP’ and same amount is transferred out to a persons name.

I googled hillside sports and get a Gibraltar company? Is this some kind of dodgy tax thing? Can’t talk to partner until later when he’s home from work and I’m freaking myself out wondering what it can be.

Noone on AIBU can tell you anything more than Google can. Unless the amounts are huge I really wouldn't be freaking out. Just ask your partner.

Looks like Hillside Sports GP is linked to Bet365. The transfers out are odd though.

Transfer out to a mate's account?

Linked to bet365

Bound to be betting. A friend with a gambling problem trying to keep it from a partner maybe?

Strange, probably a simple explanation. Don't panic, just ask him later. Come back.and tell us as its intriguing.

I'd say he has a friend who is using your partners bet365 account to gamble and he's won some so your partner has transferred the money to him.

My DP has a friend who has an issue with gambling so uses my DP account so he can keep an eye on it

Why are you panicking? Do you have concerns about him?
Chances are it’s a simple explanation.

No I don’t know the person whose name it is.

One amount is for £9000, others are for £100s so not small amounts.

It could be gambling, but seems strange to have it paid into partners account when he’s not putting bets on? No money going out to betting sites. Would they let someone transfer winnings to another account?

Just came to say this is B365 too!

Why would you be freaking out at something on your partners account, which I assume he has given you access too Confused

Elbeagle · 19/11/2019 13:32

Having looked up the name it definitely seems to be linked to betting.

The person who deals with pay and pensions in school never seems to know anything. Is this possible or even a good idea?

The debit side is probably on a credit card?

Ask your partner who John smith (or whatever the guys name is) is first. See what he says. Then ask about the £9k.

Do you know anyone that has a gambling problem? It may be that your DP is effectively assisting them in hiding it by having the money go through his account which he then pays over.

Worst case scenario is that it's money laundering. How much are the amounts involved?

Oops, not sure what happened there, sorry.

What I was trying to say is that the debit side of the transaction is probably on a credit card, either DP's or the friend's. I don't do online betting but I believe you set up an account balance with them and bets are placed from that.

£9000 is a really big win though.

Came on to say that Gibraltar almost certainly means online gambling, but I see others have beaten me to it!

@FunnyInjury because it seems odd to have £1000s coming in and going out in strange transactions ? Because we’re looking to apply for a mortgage soon and if it’s anything dodgy it’s going to end up making things difficult for us and he doesn’t usually hide things from me.

It is definitely Bet365. I do matched betting and my first thought was someone has asked your DP to open an account in his name as it is one of the most lucrative for a matched better in terms of offers etc. Some people I know will pay £100s for use of a Bet365 account. It will be the other persons money, but it will have to go through your dps bank account because it has to be in same name etc.

Could be matched betting, it's a lucrative account (bet365) and I transfer a lot of money out from them but not necessarily payments in as that generally goes to the exchange

It’s another name for bet 365. Think it’s their parent company name.

I imagine they are involved in a betting syndicate with matched betting

It's a gambling company
