To have walked out of the hairdressers

Prepared to be told I abu but this has annoyed me!
2 year old DD has lovely curly hair but her fringe has been getting in her face so time for a hair cut. Messaged my regular hairdresser if she did children's haircuts not a problem so appointment booked for 10.30 yesterday!
Went in and sat down with a nervous 2 year old. Hairdresser was putting dye on another lady looked like she had just started. Asked politely 25 minutes in if she would be much longer as we had somewhere to be at 11.30 (somewhere only 10 minutes away) said she wouldn't be long now (even though it was already 25 minutes over no apology) Sat there for 40 minutes, hairdresser walked into the back to get more hair dye so no sign of it being our turn. So I said have to to go or I'll be late and hairdresser seemed mad at me! No apology or anything. Would anyone else have walked out or was I in the wrong?

Of course you weren’t wrong. A 5-10 minute delay fair enough, but you’d made an appointment for a time that they were making no effort to honour. You can’t be expected to just sit there all day until they fancy dealing with you!

She actually sighed at me and said well you can book in later then if you want. It's a shame because normally she is lovely but she had obviously double booked!

YANBU. I would never wait more than 15mins beyond my appointment time.

Yanbu at all. She’d have been better to quickly cut your daughter’s hair then return to the colour!

You weren't being unreasonable at all OP especially with a nervous child.

Bizarrely your leaving your appointment probably meant she wasn't as late for the customers after you!

Saturdays are manic in a hairdressers (no excuse) is it possible you can book for a quieter week day? I'd like to think she'd do it free of charge on this occasion. Could be worth asking?

DDs hair sounds gorgeous by the way smile

Oh god, i would not have lasted 40 minites trying to entertain my 2 yo. He has zero patience and I dread scenarios like this whenever we have to go for an appt.

YANBU. It won't have looked good to other customers that you had had to leave because they didn't honour your appt so I think she will have been feeling defensive too.

I bet she didn't double book. It's just the rudeness of not acknowledging that you've been waiting 40 minutes would hack me off.

@tellmewhenthespaceshipslandcoz her hair is beautiful nothing like my rubbish thin hair! Just to clarify she wasnt having a proper full fringe just the hair cut so it was no longer in her eyes! I've sent her a message to say it was unacceptable. She only works thursdays, fridays and Saturdays so thats why we needed a Saturday appointment but will definetly going elsewhere!

Outrageous, not even acknowledging you had been waiting 40 minutes.

I would have left after 15 minutes.

I'm usually quite laid-back about these things, but this would have REALLY pissed me off, mainly because of her attitude and complete lack of acknowledgement or apology.

I’d have walked out too, although did you ask how much longer it would be OP? If she was 40 mins in and still getting more dye that sounds quite a comprehensive colour treatment and I’m not sure where she’d been thinking to fit you in - maybe beforehand?

I would have done the same even 20 mins is long to be expected to wait with a 2 year old and def not 40 mins!
She's overbooked or her first couple appointments were late which in turn made all the other appointments late.

I just don't know why some hairdressers act like this. A few years ago I booked in quite an upmarket salon and when I went in everyone, even the owner completely ignored me. I sat down and waited and waited. After about 20 minutes, I just got up and walked out.

When I got home the hairdresser (or haircutter as they wanted to be referred to) rang me and offered me a free hair cut. No explanation or anything. I decided I did not want to brave the strange atmosphere again and politely declined. They shut a few months later.

Her behaviour was inexcusable because you had an anxious toddler with you but of course the colour would bring in a lot more money than a toddler trim. Go somewhere else and find yourself another hairdressser.

I have a freelance mobile hairdresser now who is rarely if ever late and will ring me if he is held up anywhere. He is booked at least 4 weeks in advance for a reason.

I have had the same happen to me and still regret not walking out, you did the right thing, so rude of them
