Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

GDPR.

I think it's stockholm syndrome, though.

I was in charge of implementing it for our company, and I reckon I did a cracking job. Not one person I have encountered in real life has a clue.

MN actually has the best GDPR knowledge of any forum I visit. Whenever I see a thread with GDPR in the heading, I just know they'll have it ALL wrong, but they've usually been corrected before I get there.

Warhammer. I have three armies now and play competitively. Would never had considered this as a hobby 2 years ago.

Saving money. Was shit poor at one point, now very comfortable but still get excited when I nab one of the £1.50 Lidl veg boxes or find a cracking deal on utilities. Love projecting how early we will retire or what our savings will be in X years. DH couldn’t give a shit but let’s me get on with it.

GDPR.

OMG I can't believe I'm even reading this! You are a super-geek!

I was going to say, getting stuck in organising a drawer or closet, but that seems positively wild compared to GDPR.

You're excited about a hoover and gadgets in the kitchen. I'd strongly suggest thinking long and hard about why they are things that excite you if you're the main person in the house that uses them Confused Did you get the Dyson and DH get something shiney? If not, crack on.

I, however, totally geek out about my allotment ☺️ at I'm in my 30's so people think I am very odd.

I bought a new iron a few weeks ago. It's a Phillips Steam Generator iron that you don't need to set the temperature on because it automatically recognises what material you're ironing and sets the temperature accordingly. I love it.

Mine’s saving money too- cooking the most tasty and nutritious meals for the least I can spend. I also love getting things mended and keeping things for years. I don’t like buying new stuff because I love the idea of giving something a new life.

My house doesn’t look like a jumble sale, despite all that (I hope!) .

Stationery for me too! And craft things, though I guess that's not particularly uncool at the moment.

My mum gave DH a slow cooker a couple of years ago, and he's still very excited about it!

I love giving the kitchen floor a good clean.

Well my ribbon drawer is pretty well organised too. And my store cupboard has an inventory on it, that DH fails to read.

When I can pick up/source free food for my raw-fed dog.
Fresh road-kill is particularly exciting!!

Going over big bridges over water. DH humours me but now avoids Anglesey as there are two and you can do a loop!

Yes, stationery for me - I am in charge of the stationery cupboard at work, and I can finally fulfill my 13-year-old self's desire to have mechanical pencils in double figures.

Also health and safety legislation. I work in a regulation industry and there is nothing I get more satisfaction from than carrying out the quarterly office risk assessment and identifying a minor slip/trip/fall hazard that I can enforce control measures on.

And I do love a bit of GDPR. I took a perverse thrill in shredding a load of expired files right in front of my predecessor in the role, who likes to print out and keep every email she has ever received, and was horrified that I was getting rid of stuff from 1995 that had never been looked at in the last 20+ years and related to trivial nonsense that was never going to come up again.

I am actually quite a fun person despite all this, honest...

I like an Excel spreadsheet and filling in a form. I also love writing Christmas cards and am a bit sad that I don't really write many now.

My dehumidifier

I love seeing how much water comes out the air and try and guess the humidity before I switch it on.
My dh pretends not to be excited about it but I know he secretly is

Report
PooWillyBumBum · 07/11/2019 14:57

@furrytoebean that made me laugh. I also enjoy emptying the dehumidifier, however mine does not tell me how humid my air is. #dehumidifiergoals

Neither particularly uncool or nerdy just weird

I love cardboard boxes, the more complicated and the more they're just made out of one continuous piece of card the better

Going on the tube, I find London fascinating and it's always fun to figure out where I need to go (and work around any line closures.)

The time and date website, it covers the weather, moon phases, map of the night sky, how long the day/civil twilight/nautical twilight/astronomical twilight/night are. Sometimes I pore over it for ages looking things up. I also have an interest in the passing of the seasons/months.

Lightning maps, so I can track any thunderstorms. Grin

Clouds are interesting too. Smile

And I geek out over colours.

New sheet music - even if I then find out it's too hard to play.
Deleting things off the Sky box when watched - especially when it's the last one of a series.
Getting a Fire stick and discovering C4 has every episode of Hill Street Blues, ever
( This sounds like I spend my life watching TV - I don't)
A good spreadsheet.
