Should I let all my neighbours know I’m letting off fireworks on bonfire night?

So there’s been a lot posted in social media about letting off fireworks, scaring animals. I get it... usually I would only watch fireworks at an organised display but I have a son with autism who can’t handle the crowds at a display but absolutely loves fireworks. We have bought just a few garden fireworks that are labelled ‘low noise’ to let off tomorrow night.

If people are going to let off fireworks locally sometimes they post on the community page to let people know.

I have spoke to my direct neighbours about it and they are fine.

Do I have let more people know? I live in the type of place everyone moans about anything and everything.

Surely people expect it on bonfire night?

I won’t me letting them off late. It will be around 5.30-6pm and it’s only a few.

For low noise ones, if you've told your direct neighbours I wouldn't worry (and we have a dog who gets terrified).

Nah people expect them on the actual night. It's all the other nights that do my head in.

Might be considerate to mention it on your community page but people will expect it those with animals who are scared (ours is a nightmare) can gauge the likely start and finish times if people post, our community page does this and it’s all very friendly.

That depends on where you live.

We are very rural and animals and livestock can be very distressed by the unexpected and unusual noises. We also have hay stores and if one of them catches, it can be potentially devastating, so knowing it might happen helps us to be more alert. If you live somewhere that lots of people are likely to be doing it, then I would worry less.

I am expecting them but I still think it’s nice to let people know. I personally don’t like them and I have a dog who is afraid and I can’t walk after dark at the moment, it would be nice to know the times but you aren’t obliged to.

A lot of deer have been running out into roads this weekend and being killed, partly due to spooking from fireworks. I live rurally

It would be incredibly thoughtful and much appreciated, im sure. Please do! Especially as its early!!! Alot of us will walk our dogs at that time to AVOID the local fireworks, which are usually let off a little later. Neighbours can also get cats etc in. Thankyou for even considering !!!

I love fireworks but i wouldn't let them off in my garden. We do have wildlife in our area. Find some open space, like an empty parking lot. Less likely to scare animals or people

also you could get some non-flying ones, like volcano types. They are very pretty to look at, and low risk of an accident.

we live in a very rural area too. I just wondered what other people’s opinions are. It’s the first time I’ve ever bought some (partner has let them off before so he will be doing so safely). I wouldn’t let them off any other night other than bonfire night and I know there’s a few letting them off nearby too around the same sort of time. I don’t like letting them off last 7 as little ones might be in bed (usually mine included). I’ll post something on the community page!

My neighbour has several dogs but fortunately they don’t bat an eyelid at anything. They are so chilled.

We also have a dog. Which is another reason not to attend a display so we can stay home with her but she didn’t seem overly bothered last year!

I do think fireworks should be limited to 5th of November unless it’s a planned and well advertised event so people can prepare!

I would just pop a note through the doors of my closest neighbours.

I had to lay on the floor for two hours with my terrified pet last night whilst she cried and shook with fear with her eyes rolling back after my next door neighbours had a full firework display last night without any warning.

They should be banned apart from advertised, organised, licensed displays.

I really don't think that's fair on all the families who want to celebrate Diwali, Chinese New Year and New Year's Eve.

Having said that, I'm in the 'display only camp' but while they're still on sale to the public, I don't think it's fair to say people can only celebrate Guy Fawke's Night with them.

We have found some ‘lower noise’ fireworks in Asda. More of a garden type firework. We haven’t bought any rockets or bangers so hopefully won’t any animals too much distress!

We are rural but there’s not any livestock directly near us. We live in a weird little village in the middle of nowhere. Obviously fields surrounding but the village itself is quite built up.

I think that on the night of the 5th and the nearest Saturday fireworks are to be expected.

We have horses and the proximity last night was awful- have yet to work out who it was, but I will explain why it was an issue when I do......

There are other ways to celebrate, especially Festival of light, which only needs candles, Hannuka doesn't get celebrated with lots of noisy explosives. However, Chinese firecrackers are a thing. All things considered it could still be done as an organised event that people are told about in advance rather than people just going out and scaring the shit out of anything because they want to.
