to think my work are taking the piss

NC for obvious reasons. to give some background without giving too much away, I have worked in a senior management position for a number of years, however our board has recently changed. I previously had an assistant to manage my diary and email inbox and she recently left. In an exit interview which wasn't conducted by me she stated that she found me hard to work with because apparently I'm disorganised and I don't check my emails. I found this assistant a major nag and I was quite glad she left to be honest, she did my email inbox well enough but would be constantly nagging me to reply to this, reply to that, basically always implying I wasn't doing things on time. I don't see it as my job to be in my emails all the time, I feel it should be more than fine for people to wait for responses to emails. I need a lot of time to think and I hate the modern thing that you have to be on email 24/7. However due to assistant saying all this which I find a massive betrayal board have now questioned my working methods. I work my hours, if I work over my hours I claim TOIL as is my right per my contract. however that is being questioned too. We don't expect junior staff to work over and above that hours and I don't see why that is expected of senior staff either. I used to be free to manage my time, hours and emails how I saw fit but the new board is making me feel like I need to account for my every move and I am so sick of it. I love my job but it can't go on like this.
