to think Sainsburys new nectar scheme is crap because the 'Double up' now has a maximum total spend of £100 !

Has anybody noticed that they have changed the rules this year.ie
"Only £100 worth of Nectar Double Up vouchers will be issued per Nectar card/account during the promotional period."
Previously there was no limit on how much you of your nectar points you could use.
Previously, there was a limit of £100 voucher per item, now the overall limit you can spend is £100!
I have 33,000 points which would have been worth £333 in the double up. Now it will be worth £100 + £115 ... so I'm losing £118.
No wonder they can splash out on their ad campaign ... cos'they're going to save millions.
B@stards!
I'll be going to Tescos from now on.

Totally with you. I'd planned my £400 over 2 cards

Myself and my wife used to have 2 cards but they convinced us to combine them a few years back. GRRRR!!!

I was about to say the same as crusty crab. Perhaps save your remaining points for next year and get another card to use in the meantime. Oh and yes, it sucks.

If I kept shopping at Sainsbury's, by this time next year I'd probably have £500 or £600 worth of vouchers and I'd only be able to spend £100 (or £200 if they allow a second card which I bet they won't).
It wasn't so bad when they had some other decent offers during the year like the Pizza Express or Vue vouchers but they're all discontinued.
The 'Double Up' was literally the only worthwhile way of spending them!

I'm going to spread over more cards for next year. Thought we were ok with two and then they go and do this!

Another change is that you can no long get your vouchers in store. You have to have them posted to you or download them to the nectar app on your phone. This is going to save Sains loads of money as plenty of people only have the card and won't be aware of this change.

The other change for this year which is equally shit is that you can’t exchange your points for the vouchers in store. You can only do it online between certain dates, or by downloading the Nectar app.

That means that you can’t select the items you want first and get the appropriate number of vouchers. You have to get them in advance and have to spend them before double up ends.

yabu
the saving schemes are a big rip off and until you can redeem the points they are worthless.

Have they said what you can spend tgem on? Last year I just got loads of wine

I was saying this to DP only the other day, I prefer to shop in Sainsbury's, but nectar has got so restrictive that I am thinking of moving my whole shop to Tesco's as I can do so much more with my points. This year I have had membership to the RHS and a magazine subscription.

Are you sure? Over the course of the year you’d have to be spending around £1000 per week in Sainsbury’s to amass points of that value.

I meant that in addition to the £230 I'll have left after this year's double up , if I kept shopping at Sainsbury's I'd probably end up with a total of 500/600

The only benefit I can see this year is that you can spend the voucher across all the depts that are included in the double up when previously you had to get separate vouchers for each department which was really faffy.

But yes it's shit they're limiting it to £100 worth per card.

Fragglesrooke · 01/11/2019 08:58

You have to spend the full amount in a single transaction too! Small print further down.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/11/2019 09:10

Well not many people will have that many points, so maybe they're limiting it so a few high spenders don't clear out the offer and spoil it for everyone else.

How have people managed to collect so many points? I shop there nearly every week spending around £100, and have been saving for a year, but by points are currently only worth £80.
I make use of the bonus vouchers when I get them too.
What am I doing wrong?

I use them for rail tickets....we went first class to London last month on them.
I have about £85 in points at the moment . Spend about £500 A month in Sainsbury's plus petrol.

I spoke to somebody from Nectar and discovered that myself and my wife have joint cards and we are allowed a £100 voucher on each card which is an improvement.
But god, they do make it difficult!

But you can at least spend that £100 (doubled to £200) in one category. Before last year you were limited to either £20 or £25 of points per category.

Just use your balance on making your food shop cheaper and put your money towards the double up.

Report
crustycrab · 01/11/2019 16:08

No word but you won't get double points. It costs more that way still.

To those saying you have to change to vouchers in advance that's not right. You can fill your trolley and then change the points if you use the app

It's still better than the previous years with the limit per department.

Ultimately, it's free shit, so 🤷‍♀️

This is the 2017 (and all previous years) offer. I still think it's better now, even with the limit.

But it used to be £20 limit per category. You can spend your £100 across all categories. It's better.

But it's free shit. Stop whining.
