AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

Those people are going to riot even harder if Brexit happens, as it's exactly that group of people who will be financially hit the hardest.

YANBU. It’s inflaming tensions and making things even worse than before

A bit of rioting from half witted people frothed up by right wing liars is nothing compared to the risk of not being able to give my children their life saving medication if we crash out.

Mmm not sure, I was at the march today and was concerned that there might be trouble this time (been at the other two as well) but nothing materialised that I know of. I'm not convinced there will be trouble, if Article 50 was revoked now then I wouldn't be so sure....

Yes, I was thinking of some of the Brexiters. The ones who "just want Brexit" Also concerned for Remainer MPs, who may recieve more threats of violence.

Completely agree with HollowTalk

Agree, Hollowtalk.

No trouble at the march today, Remainers are nice.

And to OP, Brexit is not an event, it’s a process. A process that will mean another decade of uncertainty and anxiety if we let it continue.

Those people 🙄
For those of us who live in the real world and live and work with every level of society outside of the M25 this sort of comment is incredibly narrow minded and says more about you than most of ‘those people’ you refer to.
I rarely engage in brexit arguments but I am fed up of comments like this.

I know it's a process, it's the uncertainty of a full Brexit actually happening that will possibly incur wrath! Brexiters will see their dream result fading further and further into the distance.

Remainer marches in the hundreds of thousands. Leavers truck protest about 30 trucks.
Says it all. Leavers won’t protest or kick off. It’s hard to get passionate about something when you don’t actually know what you are protesting, other than “we won though”.

Marching in protest of brexit when the current government has no intention of acting democratically is hardly a win!
I am very much on the fence regarding brexit, I can see both sides of the argument. What I am more worried about is the governments and parliaments inability to commit to democracy. This ridiculous mess they have got themselves into is going to have far reaching consequences to future politics. We may never see a majority government again. Years of ineffective hung parliaments are likely. We are likely to damned if we leave and damned if we don’t.

Brexit won't solve any of the problems that caused people to vote for it.

And we're wasting time and money trying to push through something - when the politicians in charge really want to:
not clamp down on tax avoidance
privatise the NHS
make money

And really have no idea how to do anything.
A sensible Brexit plan would have been to work out how to do it and then send in the letter to trigger Article 50.

And most leavers are too busy trying to keep their heads above water.

Yabu because the majority of people who "WANT BREXIT!" don't have the first clue about how to organise themselves or participate in the full gamut of democracy which includes civil disobedience. That's the truly sad thing about it and possibly what led to the vote going the way it did - picking up people who were previously completely disenfranchised and distanced from politics.

There was a man on BBC today and he was asked what he wanted to happen. He said he wanted to leave the EU. The interview followed up by saying 'so you want MPs to vote for Boris Johnson's deal?". He replied that he didn't know anything about Boris Johnson's deal but he wanted to leave the EU. I genuinely feel sorry for people like that who have got caught up in a feeling but have no interest in the practical details or what it's actually going to mean for the future of this country.

I don't feel sorry for people like this man. I feel sorry for the people who voted for remain who jobs and rights are going to be decimated and those who will have problems accessing medicine in the short term and the NHS longer term when it has been flogged to the USA.
I hope that people like this man suffer the hardest of losses frankly.
Stupid prick. It just reinforces my belief that there should be an intelligence test before people are allowed to vote.

This. People want Brexit but many don’t understand they won’t be getting what they voted for.

YANBU to be concerned. Just look at Hong Kong and Catalonia right now. But I don't think the UK is at that point just yet. Delaying or even cancelling Brexit after all has very little impact on individual freedoms, it's more limiting what the government can do. And to be honest I think most people, however we voted in 2016, are just fed up more than anything else.

Actually there was some research in the guardian today I think that suggested most leave voters were affluent older voters in the south/ south east. It discussed the obsession that the MSM had with interviewing leaver voters in places like Stoke, Grimsby and Middlesbrough, the moral dilemma that labour had trying to square the circle with its northern leave voters when in actual fact most leavers were in the south and not so called left behind areas but the press etc were trying to create a certain narrative as usual

I can't believe (or perhaps I can) that most people will be prepared to accept a deal that is shittier than a shit deal because they are 'fed up'.
They're going to be a damn sight more fed up when they wake the fuck up and realise that the liar Johnson has sold them down the river with his trap door to no deal next year along with a decimation of their working rights.
He is a proven liar. He disgusts me and any MP that supports his deal should hang their head in shame.

Brexit won't solve any of the problems that caused people to vote for it

It won't because people are railing against neoliberalism, why it's caused long term divisions is because EU supporters are generally aligned with neolib policies, hence why even if we stay or leave the political landscape has changed forever. For example labour acivists are going to have a hard time pushing the anti big business narrative if we do stay in the EU.

There is a reason why it has caused such a shit show in government, and it can't be dumbed down to those who voted leave are too thick/easily led (mental gymnastics are had when its pointed out the number of labour constituants who voted leave).

However this is settled, if we stay in which I hope, it has changed the political landscape for ever

I'm a remainer and committed to a confirmatory referendum with remain on the paper. I've never heard a cogent argument for leaving from any leaver. But, the most frustrating attitudes I've encountered are "I just want it over" and "I'm bored of it". This is the most important legal, constitutional and economic question of our lives, it's worth taking time to scrutinise every aspect fully.

The leave campaign can't muster a protest! Apart from that, why would we ever give in to a riotous mob?
