AIBU?

AIBU by saying no to looking after the 'outdoor cat' which I've just been informed will be staying with the house for 'a few weeks' after completion?

Having recently exchanged the seller has been in touch to say they're taking all the pets except their 'outdoor cat' and could we look after it got a few weeks until they're settled?

We won't be moving in fully for the first few weeks as the house and garden need a fair bit of work. I'm also slightly worried that we have no idea where the cat is given the neglected state of the garden.

Voting:
YANBU - say no to the cat
YABU - say yes to the cat

YANBU and I love cats. What are they thinking?

Absolutely not! All belongings, live or inert need to be gone!

I don't have the vote buttons but YANBU - tell them their cat must go with them as you will not take their responsibilities on! Cheeky Fuckers!

Cats are one of the biggest triggers for my asthma. No way would I agree to this.

YANBU.

They will "forget" about it and you'll be stuck with it.

They will never come back for it and you will be landed with a feral cat.

If it's an outdoor cat I guarantee loads of people will be feeding it

They aren’t ever coming back for that cat, poor thing Sad

That’d be a flat no from me.

Well I would just keep it as a freebie because I love cats. If they showed up later I'd act all confused.

What?! No I would not look after a strangers cat. What a ridiculous ask.

Report
Velveteenfruitbowl · 17/10/2019 20:14

What the hell is wrong with them? This would be a flat out no from me (bad allergies) with a threat to report it abandoned if they leave the poor thing behind. Some people shouldn’t be allowed pets. What if you were a cat murdering psycho?

Report
MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2019 20:15

That's a hard no from me. Because even if you want a cat, feed it, love it, they could then turn up and take it. Buggered either way!

cowfacemonkey · 17/10/2019 20:16

No chance. You will never see the back of that cat!

Sockypuppet · 17/10/2019 20:16

They are so cheeky I have to laugh.

Or they know their cat is an asshole who refuses to move out.

Report
SuchAToDo · 17/10/2019 20:17

Say no, ...they take all their pets when they leave, ...don't agree or you will be stuck with a cat you didn't even want

Why can't they take the cat? Did they explain?

Actually irrespective of the reason, I would still say no.

I’d ask more about the cat because the only time I’ve come across this exact situation is if there is a feral cat on the property.
The cat is probably not a pet or a stray but a feral cat that lives there and they shelter and feed it. Feral cats cannot be pet, picked up, put in crates and transported like a pet cat. They also do not like to be moved from their “territory.” The prior owners are probably trying to get RSPCA or other professional to trap the cat and get it to their new home. That can take weeks to get scheduled and done. If you’re just putting out cat food, I’d do it. And I have done it in the past when I moved to a former farm and there were six feral barn cats that came with the deal.

No, of course not!! Why would they even ask?
