Hi all,
New to this and at my whits end ! I have large flys in my bathroom around 20 odd there just sitting on window, doppy and slow moving. Can anyone tell me what sort of fly this could be? There’s no bad smell as if something is rotten and there only in my bathroom.
Mum of 2 :)

Likely cluster flies.

Huge flies in my office the last 2 days...we've found 2 dead mice....look everywhere!

Cluster flies you can just hoover up. Sorry, should have said.

A dead mouse you'd smell. They stink.

This is what I was dreading! I’ve hoovered everywhere no maggots or anything that smells horrid. My partner has covered the vents windows shut etc and I’ve had the one or two still appear so far today. There large but seem black body with clear wings.

Could be cluster flies. Get a strong fly spray from Home base or similar, if that doesn't help you will need to contact a pest control provider. Flies don't always indicate something dead or rotten, sometimes they're just there for no apparent reason

My grandma had the same, there was a dead bird behind the fire, it had come down the chimney. There was no smell from dead bird just LOTS of flies.

I just spray flies with antibacterial surface sprays. Kills them just as good as fly sprays and added bonus cleans the surface when you wipe up dead flies.

As I stated I can’t find a source not that I want too if it’s anything horrid LOL ! My house is like a magnet for them and they can’t get away... anything I should be looking for in particular?

They sound like bluebottles.
They die off this time of the year.
Bleach sinks etc.
They were possibly on the sill trying to get out the window.

Sorry to jump on your thread but I have this too! It's driving me insane. The flies in my bathroom are small though, like fruit flies and not concentrated to one area. Not a huge infestation but enough to be noticeable.

No obvious smell and I clean it regularly, boiling water down the drain etc. I really don't know what's attracting them Angry

They don’t like the smell of lavender so a pot outside your bathroom window or a small plant in your bathroom should get rid of them.

They are just cluster flies, very common at this time of year because of the weather going colder, they come inside. I had a cluster of them the other week that I got rid of and haven’t had any more (nothing dead in my house, they just came in for a warm!)

Cluster flies. Bastards. I developed a fear of flies due to a student flat I rented when in uni being full of them. They were coming through the vents and I had to spray fly killer down them and cover them in the end. Thinking about it that probably wasn't such a good idea!

I’ve bleached everywhere hoovered washed carpets etc, there more annoying than anything else I just don’t wish for a dead rodent or a living rodent in my house. Thank you for everyone’s input

I didn’t realise they don’t like lavender! You learn something new everyday,, @supercee I feel the annoyance your going through! Mine are just big and doppy I literally open the window and throw them out as they cling to my bathroom curtain!

Currently staying in my parents house (they are away) and they have cluster flies in the window frames of all the bedrooms. Bloody things are driving me crazy when I'm reading in bed as they wake up when the light is on. I don't have the time or inclination to run round with the fly swat or hoover like mum does. Good tip about the lavender - might get an oil burner!

If it was my house I would get advice from pest control but I suspect that there's not a lot you can do other than what you are currently doing. They don't appear to come from anywhere just hang around waiting to die.

We've got a lot of sunshine at the moment - I think they are hatching somewhere and finding their way in.

They'll be gone by morning, the nights are too cold for them to survive (unless you have central heating and it's switched on overnight). I've got the doors and windows open at the moment and lots of bees coming in trying to get warm.
