AIBU?

AiBU to worry about my daughter?

My daughter (11) goes to an all-girls school. Today she heard rumours from other girls that her form tutor is a pedophile. I asked her what evidence, if any, there was and she said the others girls hadn't say. Now I know this might be a malicious rumour, but I can't stop worrying. What if it's true? AIBU? What would you do in my place?

Same thing happened at my school. Poor teacher left and felt so sorry for them. Once that kind of cruel rumour starts it can have horrible consequences for the person. Tell her ignore it. You ignore it too.

I'd tell my daughter to stop gossiping about people's lives in a way that is highly damaging without any evidence at all. That's an important life lesson to learn. Then I'd move on.

This thread has already been done. YBVVVVVVU Now stop and have a word with your daughter about spreading viscous lies.

Ignore such gossip, especially if it originates from the children. Sounds like it has already got out of control and you are perpetuating it.

Poor teacher if this isn't true. Sad

Yabu
When I was at school there was a similar rumour spread about a teacher which was all lies! I feel awful for him it must of ruined his life! I'm now 29 and still when his name is mentioned people say "is that the peado?" These things never go away.
If there was any truth in this at all do you honestly think he would be there!?

So there’s literally zero evidence of source apart from preteen girls?
And you’re worried?

You should be telling your dd off for repeating malicious gossip.

YANBU in the sense of I think any mum would worry if she heard something like that. But you've not heard any evidence as such, so all you can do is try not to worry about it- unless you want to go to the head or something? :/ They could interview the girls and see if there's any reason why they're saying this.

What if it's true? Yes, I'm sure a group of pre-teen girls would expose that before say any teachers.

FFS. Get a grip of yourself. This shit ruins lives.

Dreadful!

How would you like it if they decided your daughter was a thief, based on their say so! Tell your daughter to stop the gossip now.

Why don’t you ask the headmistress? If she says ‘Yes, he is’, maybe you should consider whether this is the right school for your daughter.

Apolloanddaphne · 16/10/2019 22:08

Of course it isn't true. Why would you even give this headspace?

How ridiculous ! No evidence, never mind that the school will have done thorough checks before employing him, just teenage girls being stupid and cruel. Can't believe you are even thinking this is true and ' worrying about your daughter' you should be ashamed !

The teacher will have had police checks and everything before being allowed to teach. So they’re less likely to be a paedophile than most people. In your shoes I’d report to the school so they can squash these rumours before they affect the teacher’s career.
