Should I have shared my garlic bread?

Went to Nando’s with some pals, we all like doing this because we all order what we want separately and there’s no faffing with splitting the bill.

Our orders came, and I ordered garlic bread as my side. I love garlic bread, and I love the bread they put their garlic butter on and it’s my fave thing.

Friends meal arrives, she’s ordered chips and coleslaw as her side, looks forlornly over at my perfect garlic bread and says “I wish I’d ordered the garlic bread now”. Someone else pipes up with “oh you’ll know for next time.” And we all
Laughed.

So I just eat my meal and enjoy my (two slices of) garlic bread. She’s got an absolute face on at the end of the meal and I asked her what was up and she said to me “you could’ve offered me one of your slices of garlic bread instead of gutsing them both”.

I wish I was more mature and I wish that comment hadn’t hurt me but I’m in the middle of a weight loss journey (still treating myself to sinful garlic bread sometimes) I have to say it really shocked me and I’ve been thinking about it ever since (i know iabu because it’s just a comment but still). She made me feel like a right gutsy git.

If it was something like an Indian meal I’d have had no problem sharing bits of everything because that’s the kind of meal it is but with something like Nando’s surely you just pick what you want? Was I right to eat both my pieces of garlic bread or should I have offered to share?

She can’t just decide to claim some of your food! Trying to shame you was very unkind.

Next time you go order nothing but 10 portions of garlic bread and make eye contact her the entire you eat them all occasionally stopping to tell her how good it is.

Your friend is a spoiled brat and you did nothing wrong.

If she was that bothered, surely she could've gone and ordered an extra side of garlic bread for herself.

Whatsername7 Wed 16-Oct-19 18:56:16

Did she share her fries and coleslaw? Shes being entitled. Nothing wrong with eating what you ordered.

Zebraaa Wed 16-Oct-19 18:56:45

She’s a spoilt brat and if she wanted some garlic bread that much she could have gone back up and ordered it. Don’t feel bad.

which1 Wed 16-Oct-19 18:57:09

You didn't do anything wrong per se.

But I think I would have picked up that that was a hint, given her a slice and nicked some of her chips in return...

But her comment was rude so I'd be glad I didn't share with her at the end of the day.

steff13 Wed 16-Oct-19 18:57:32

Couldn't she have ordered her own garlic bread? Even if she didn't at first, she could have gone back. Or she could have offered to share one of her sides for a piece of garlic bread. She's being unreasonable.

altiara Wed 16-Oct-19 18:57:59

She should’ve ordered her own.

RobynsMama Wed 16-Oct-19 18:58:02

Nope didn’t offer to share hers. But she wouldn’t have because she knows I don’t eat coleslaw. She doesn’t even have form for this, it’s actually never happened before so I was a bit hmm

ScreamingValenta Wed 16-Oct-19 18:58:04

She's being ridiculous. If she wanted garlic bread once she saw yours, why didn't she order some?

firawla Wed 16-Oct-19 18:58:51

She’s a weirdo, as if someone would get a face on like that over a slice of garlic bread. In nandos you can easily pop back to the counter and order something extra in these kind of situations, which is what she should have done if she was that bothered! Or she could have asked do you want to swap a piece for half my chips, but obviously not sulked if you said no.
She’s really strange to keep a grudge about this throughout the whole meal and then use horrible words to make you sound greedy.

YANBU at all and 103% of people think so!

PrincessHoneysuckle Wed 16-Oct-19 18:59:09

Cheeky mare,i wouldnt share 2 slices

EdersonsSmileyTattoo Wed 16-Oct-19 18:59:26

YANBU!! I love Nando’s Garlic Bread too, CF can buy her own if she wants it!

Tell her to fuck off!

RobynsMama Wed 16-Oct-19 18:59:40

which1 see this is where I think I might have been unreasonable, because I feel like i should’ve offered. But I only ordered one side and wanted to enjoy it. She’d ordered two and could’ve ordered an extra if she’d wanted

PurpleDaisies Wed 16-Oct-19 18:59:41

Oh, it’s back to 100% now...

I’m not mad, honest.

Whatsnewpussyhat Wed 16-Oct-19 18:59:53

Was she prepared to hand over half her chips in exchange or did she just want all of her dinner plus half your garlic bread? (Which is big enough for 1 person)

Cheeky fucker implying you are greedy. She chose her 2 sides and if she really wanted GB she could of simply gone back to the till and bloody ordered some.

PurpleDaisies Wed 16-Oct-19 19:00:16

She could have just ordered some more.

EggysMom Wed 16-Oct-19 19:00:33

Next time she'll know to order some.
There's no way I'd share any of my food like that!

steff13 Wed 16-Oct-19 19:00:58

Presumably she'd been to this place before, and garlic bread is not a new food for her. So she new of it and that it was available.

rededucator Wed 16-Oct-19 19:01:23

I don't know how you've the energy to be bothered by this. If she wanted garlic bread so much she let it spoil her evening but was too cheap to go and order her own then hell mend her. If she mentions it again say "so you wanted half my side because you're too cheap to order your own? Right ...." and eye roll dramatically. If she continues the nine sense next time you eat say loudly before you start eating, "I just want to check before I start X do you want half of this meal too? Are we going to have another huff?"

Jeezoh Wed 16-Oct-19 19:01:25

You were right, she’s the gutsy git for wanting to eat what you had without offering you something in return. Nothing to have stopped her from ordering her own garlic bread if she really wanted some.

steff13 Wed 16-Oct-19 19:01:30

knew. Oops.

Groovee Wed 16-Oct-19 19:01:44

She could have gone up and ordered her own. I used to love the garlic bread but I can't eat it anymore but the smell has me salivating!
