I have to admit when I read about the death of Richard Huckle it was quite literally the best news I've heard for weeks. Im not usually a death penalty advocate but this genuinely feels like justice to me.

I hadn’t heard of him but I read the piece on the beeb app and my first reaction was good riddance you revolting monster.

Quickly followed by thinking no one should be murdered in prison and it’s appalling the people in charge let it happen. Confusing.

But however it happened my gut says I’m glad he’s dead and I hope the news brings his victims and their families some small comfort. They’ll suffer his crimes for the rest of their lives but at least he’s no longer alive Sad

I wonder how much effort anyone will put into investigating who did it and what their punishment will be.

I wish I could feel joy over this, but I don't. As I unfortunately know full well, his victim's life sentences are only just beginning, whereas he's dead so his punishment is over. They will be dealing with this trauma in one form or another for the rest of their lives.

As much as there would be for anyone else.

It's all very well to gladhand a murder like this, but I'm not so sure I like the idea of an undetected murderer possibly being released onto the streets my family have to walk.

YANBU to not care about him as a person.

YABU not to be concerned about the big picture in which it turns out it's possible to murder someone in our prisons. This time it was someone like this. Who next time?

Can we be sure that armed and violent inmates will only ever kill serial rapists whose deaths we don't mourn?

Today it's him. Next week it might be someone whose crimes are far more minor, or even someone on remand, who would have been found not guilty.

I would have preferred he rot in prison for decades to come. He got off easy.

The man who killed him is not someone I'd want wandering the streets.

I’m concerned that if a handmade knife could be made and hidden to kill him, it could have been used on a Prison officer.

Not great that somebody got murdered in prison but OTOH he would have been eligible for parole in his mid fifties and fuckers like that don't change- so safer for children he may have encountered in future that he is dead.

Hope his innocent victims are feeling some closure and relief today. I suppose on reflection it is concerning that people aren't safe in prison but on this occasion I can't bring myself to give a shit.

Over 20 offences left on file and not tried so jurors wouldn't have to look at them - OK fair enough but I hope someone (with a ton of training and counselling) got to identify as many victims as possible so they can get whatever help they need.

I was also conflicted on hearing this news on the radio this morning.

I think this is a head v.s. heart thing.

On an emotional level, I personally also felt as though his death was somehow vindicated. I think the fact that he was a child abuser makes this reaction much stronger.

But my more reasoned response is effectively that two wrongs don't make a right. He was already serving multiple life sentences. The idea that it's OK for anyone to be murdered in prison simply because I personally find their crimes abhorrent is a troubling one.

I was delighted. He'd have been out to offend again by his 50s.

It does of course mean that a prisoner has committed murder, taken the law into their own hands.

Nightmare for the prison trying to investigate it.

I dont like the idea of a person dying by murder. Even the most evil person in the world. I dont believe monsters are born but that they are made

It depends really, what kind of society that you are comfortable living in. Someone has become a murderer (if they weren't already), that cannot be a good thing. Security within the prison is obviously very poor, that cannot be a good thing for staff and inmates alike. Some would argue that pedophilia is a mental disease, so when would death be appropriate for other afflicted individuals?

So for me, I can't see much to be pleased or happy about.

Some distant cousin of mine was a prolific child abuser (all hushed up from years ago, only found out recently) .. the It's (I'm in Northern Ireland) shot him and let him bleed out on the floor. Usually I wouldn't be a fan of paramilitary organisations but ... Proper order.

I agree that a sense of vindication is a natural response and I admit I felt that he got was coming to him.
I then felt sorry for his parents. I read that he denied all charges to the police but admitted what he had done to his parents. They were horrified and told the police immediately.
As a mum of a boy, my heart goes out especially to his mother. He was undoubtedly a monster, but he was her baby. She has suffered enormously.

You've never heard of the dysfunctional amagdyla etc in psychopaths brains then. Sometimes it's an injury but sometimes they're born with it.

True paedophiles (only sexually and romantically attracted to children) - which the majority of child abusers are not - also gave brain differences that are observable.
