There are 84 days left in this decade. AIBU to ask what you are going to do with them???

After a shitty few months with health issues of several dear friends and relatives, I feel like I need to make my mark on the decade. What can I do to shake things up or just generally be more awesome?! I don’t want the usual grim stuff about eating well and drinking less. Although if toyed with “not drinking gin till the next decade” We have 84 days people, let’s change the world! AIBU? Help me?

Id not thought of this. Are we going to look back on the teens like we do the noughties?

Whats defined this decade? Hmmmm.... hard to tell culture wise as I've been too busy raising children.

As for changing the world I might stick that on a new decade resolution.

Watching with interest. I am stuck in an awful rut, unbelievably bored with my life and sad about the wider, irreparable issues we are leaving future generations to deal with.

Mac47 Wed 09-Oct-19 23:50:53

Fuck, had not thought of it like that that.. cannot imagine we will be recreating the roaring 20s, though I imagine 100 years ago everyone was glad to see the back of the teens..
Have nothing interesting to suggest although am now recalling the Y2K trauma that spread as we anxiously awaited the world imploding at midnight 20 years ago....

I never thought about it that way. Hmm I’m starting IVF soon. Busy with work and a post-graduate course. So most likely being stressed and under pressure

MT2017 Wed 09-Oct-19 23:54:04

@EL8888 and hopefully pregnant 🤞

What personal goals do you have?
Trip somewhere? Course?

Otherwise;
Help out a charity.
Do some random acts of kindness to send a ripple effect that could reach many people.
Spend time with family and friends doing interesting stuff.

Me,

I'm doing a research internship and the assessment deadline is 6 Jan, so that, basically grin Nothing better than learning something new - as simple as listening to a few Radiolab episodes or reading something more challenging than you usually manage, maybe.

Bonkerz Thu 10-Oct-19 00:04:51

Lots of weekends away and theatre trips planned with friends and my children.

richteasandcheese Thu 10-Oct-19 00:06:29

I'm separating from my husband so that's how the end of the tens ends for me

QueenofallIsee Thu 10-Oct-19 00:07:35

I am getting married next week shock so I’ll be starting the roaring 20’s in wedded bliss I hope!

Fruitbatdancer Thu 10-Oct-19 00:10:00

I like the idea of learning something new, always wanted to do french but school taught me Spanish!
Maybe I should focus on being all set for 2020? I really hope it’s like the rotating twenties, at least from a fashion perspective! Love that era!

Bezalelle Thu 10-Oct-19 00:29:56

I hadn't thought of it like that!

I'm hoping to:

get married (planned for December)
get pregnant (currently tying)
finish chapters 3 and 4 of PhD

MovinOnUp Thu 10-Oct-19 00:32:55

I've just written out a 10 week plan as it is 10 weeks until I turn 40.
I've booked on a weight-lifting course and signed up to a beginners yoga class, Also looking into a block of guided meditation classes (Not signed up to this yet)
I'm going to end the decade healthy and toned with a positive and calm mindset.
The 20's are going to be all about furthering my career and learning French.

zebrasdontwearbras Thu 10-Oct-19 00:38:42

Oh my God.

84 days.

I think I'll get drunk grin

I need to book my DS driving lessons.
And do some Christmas Shopping.
And finish decluttering the bedrooms.
And go to the gym a bit more.

I hadn't even thought about the end of the 10s till this thread! Amazing. I'll be 50 next year shock shock

Butterymuffin Thu 10-Oct-19 00:43:12

Deep, man. I'm depressed now. It's coming to an ignominious end.

NewtonPulsifer Thu 10-Oct-19 00:47:22

I will be upping my random acts of kindness. I do loads, sometimes secretly and others where people know it is me otherwise thee RAK wouldn’t work. I’ve made extra soups or sometimes excess cottage pie or casserole to pass on to a couple of friends of mine who usually don’t get to eat until late as they ferry kids around after work to their clubs. So I will occasionally make sure I happen to be making extra on the day they are busiest and leave it for them so they have a hot meal to come home to instead of eating after 9pm.
I also check Pinterest for RAK ideas and try to do at least three a week so I will aim for five. I think it helps spread a little bit of cheer.

BeetrootBasil Thu 10-Oct-19 00:56:26

Oh my goodness with all this Brexit stuff I hadn't really realised!

I also turn into a new decade next year so the whole thing is tied up with feelings around that. I have until midway through the year to prepare!

I took a biggish decision recently to consolidate debt onto one card and spread out payments, so that I can have some memorable holidays next year. I have lots on at work, a family holiday, plans to re-engage with the gym (!), plus Christmas. Getting onto dating sites again too (eek said it now).

BeetrootBasil Thu 10-Oct-19 01:02:12

Ooh also on my list - try adult trampolining classes and comedy improv.

LonginesPrime Thu 10-Oct-19 01:23:40

I've just written this on all the whiteboards in my house so I can count down.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with this information yet, but I'm with you, OP - it definitely needs to be something!

dayslikethese1 Thu 10-Oct-19 01:44:24

Scary. It's not exactly a great note to end the decade on with everything that's going on atm is it? shock

EL8888 Thu 10-Oct-19 07:32:29

Fingers crossed @ MT2017 thanks for the vibes

user159 Thu 10-Oct-19 07:37:48

It is scary written down! I met DH in 2010 so a whole decade with him feels like a big milestone. I'm starting 2020 returning to work following all of 2019 being mat leave for DC1, really is new year, new start for us! I guess this means my 2020's are going to be a juggling act and finding a new normal as a family. Quite excited!

Steviestamborine Thu 10-Oct-19 07:40:31

The end of a decade, that’s only just occurred to me, I’ll be glad to see the back of it in some ways. It’s been a terrible few years. I think I’ll try to tie up some loose ends and then book some stuff to look forward to next year.

elprup Thu 10-Oct-19 07:42:58

It never even crossed my mind that we’ll be entering a new decade - thanks, OP!

So, my goal is to get the house properly clean, tidy and Kondoed before January 1st. I have my first baby on the way in spring next year so want to make sure everything is ready for their arrival!
