Just reading a "scariest thing that has ever happened to you" supposedly lighthearted thread on here is enough to make you feel ill. The sheer number of times the replies included being chased, followed or even grabbed by men is horrifying. And STILL my DH doesn't seem to get it. When I told him that I've had drinks spiked, strange men putting their hands INTO my knickers whilst in a nightclub, some men grabbing me by the wrist once and trying to pull me into a car and none of it was overly unusual. He just shook his head and didn't really understand the horror of it. That it's what we women fear and many and put up with just because it's life.

It just got me thinking. It would be lovely to be so free

And it is always men. I have never been hassled, intimidated, or threatened in the same way by a woman.

What's that quote? "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them".

Men are afraid that women will laugh at them and that other men will kill them.

I wouldn't do anything different if men had a curfew. I have never been hassled, intimidated or threatened by a man and I'm not afraid that one will kill me.

Are they actually afraid that other men will kill them though Moonmelodies? The way most of them go about like they own the place they don’t seem to show much fear, certainly not on an everyday basis. Maybe if they’re going to a particularly bad part of town wearing their best watch or something, but even then, my DP would be convinced he could fight off an attacker or intruder, whereas most women know it isn’t even worth trying.

Oh, well, then, onanothertrain, clearly that settles it. It's never happened to you, so...what?

That makes it not real? Not a problem? Or you're alright, Jack, and everyone else is none of your concern?

Don't be ridiculous. She answered the question. She did not make judgement about anyone else.

Mind you I wouldn't go walking in the woods alone during the day let alone walking anywhere alone at night.

So men are still the problem.

I saw who asked that question

I have never been assaulted or threatened by men either. As ridiculous as a man curfew sound, it wouldn't make any difference anyway, some women can be just as vicious and dangerous.

Ask anyone who had done time in a women's jail if a female world is so much fun.

Ridiculous thread.

I'm old now so don't tend to go out a great deal in the evening as much as I used to and tbh most of the unpleasant things that happened to me at the hands of men when I was a young woman, happened in the daytime.

But how wonderful it would feel to know that my DD could feel free to walk home after working late instead of having to get a taxi home every time.

She pretty much managed to ignore all the cat calls and comments but when the incidents of rape started spiraling in the, once, very safe town she lives in, she decided her safety was more important than her independence; probably also pushed by my constantly asking her to take a cab home.

The sense of freedom for women would be amazing. I probably would start going out at night, just because I could.

Do you live in a hole in the ground and never go out?

Yeah men are the problem, makes you wonder why the person who asked the question asked it as they are part of the problem. Hope that makes sense.

onanothertrain · 07/10/2019 20:00

nearlygranny I didn't comment on anyone else or their experience. I certainly don't think all men shouldn't be allowed out after 9 because some of them are dicks and have behaved badly to some women FFS

onanothertrain · 07/10/2019 20:01

juells nope, neither of them.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/10/2019 20:03

@FattyCutty makes perfect sense - and why I read it in the first place because of who wrote it. Regardless it made me sad that women feel so threatened at night. Those that have never felt this are very lucky.

The question asker, Danielle " suck my lady dique" Muscato, is DEFINITELY part of the problem.

Report
Changestartsnow · 07/10/2019 20:04

I think I would feel sad that I could never go out at night with my DH and my DS would grow up thinking he was a monster because he was born with a penis.

This is OTT.

The problem is the human race as a whole not men against women.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/10/2019 20:04

@onanothertrain it's a hypothetical question though - it's never going to happen. Just interesting to see how women feel

Did you see who asked them?!

I did indeed. One D "suck my dick" Muscato. An invitation charmingly issued on International Women's Day.

So while the responses were no doubt in good faith and are heartbreaking, the thread itself was, in my opinion, started to garner narcissistic supply. I suspect Muscato could go for a walk, or star gazing, or camping, anytime Muscato fancied without having to worry unduly.

Are you not aware of the statistics of male violence against women/other men?
Men ARE the problem.
