AIBU?

To delete friend who has joined an MLM

A lady I know from work has joined an MLM selling some sort of laxative coffee.
Her FB and instagram are covered in posts for it and about her promotions/trying to get a car etc etc.
She very much fits the profile of people they poach, she’s a SAHM and it’s been a squeeze of late for her.

I think MLMs are poisonous and I hate seeing her posts flogging this nonsense.
AIBU to remove her from my friend list

You could just Unfollow her or Snooze her for 30 days then, when she recovers, you can Follow her again.

Yes just turn off notifications from her, I’ve had to do this with a couple of people.

I have a friend who is flogging the exact same thing. Can't stand it. She was so normal, now she's a crackpot who apparently has lost 'sooooo much weight!!' by drinking one cup of this dodgy coffee every day, and not changing her diet in any other way! She also posts frequent 'progress pics' and looks identical in every one. I've not deleted her because aside from this lunacy she's a really nice person, but I admit I do keep her on snooze now.

What kind of friend is she?

If she is a proper real life friend then it would be odd to delete her. If she is a random internet 'friend' then I wouldn't even hesitate to delete

Wow. So if a famous person, whom u admire, bring out a drink of orange, u wouldnt try it? Have u even tried ur "friends" coffee or even asked her whats in it. Has it has clinical trials and been worked on by a healthcare professional. Are u assuming that as its weightloss it makes u poo. Maybe u should support her and allow u to put an advert on ur profile. Afterall the lady is a friend?

To the lady who doesnt like MLM companies. They are just women, mostly mums, who do not want to go out to work. They want to watch their child grown and earn money.

I hide hunbots till they recover their sense and stop losing money via their MLM.

Me too. I find the posts stop after around 12 months usually.

@CoffeeQueenOfHerts - you've obviously been sucked in!

I was drawn into FL back in 2013. Worst thing I ever did and I am so embarrassed now!

Take a look in the mirror. If that was a dig at my size. I am aware i have a lot of work to do.

No one has been sucked into mlm. Its all explained to people before joining. Im not here to sell of promote anything. Im merely say that u are entitled to ur opinion but being in mlm isnt always a con. Avon is an mlm business and u all have heard of them and if u wanted makeup and ur friend was a rep then am sure u would support her and order. Im happy to be deleted from friends lists, or snoozed for 30 days, u ladies are all fantastic but until u know the companies out there or the products i just think ur judgment is a little unfair

That is literally what those weight loss coffee/tea things are, though, isn't it? They just make you shit more. That's why people think they're losing weight - they're actually just losing water and pooing more often.

Anyway - if she's a proper friend, then I'd just unfollow her or snooze her for 30 days rather than unfriending, not least because this nonsense almost certainly won't last long. If she's someone you don't really talk to in real life then just delete her.

No I wouldn't, because I'm not 13.

These MLM companies drive me mad. It’s not “running a successful business from home” to guilt your friends into buying whatever shite you’re selling. If I know someone who starts doing this sort of thing, I just ignore it. Avon, Forever living, etc etc. Not interested, so I don’t acknowledge that people are doing it, so I don’t have to buy any of their crap.

How on earth would it be a dig at your size when I can’t see you? It’s a dig at your intellect for getting sucked into an MLM and failing to know your audience (trying to justify it on an anti MLM thread).

I do know plenty about MLM companies, lots of them, hence recognising they’re predatory schemes that prey on (mostly) women who’ll lose plenty of cash and time and never make anything approaching a wage back. And that’s if they’re lucky enough not to fall into severe debt. Or persuade others to join and the cycle to continue.

There really is plenty of info out there on MLMs. For readers unfamiliar, try Elle Beau’s Poonique blog or the anti MLM subreddit.

It's no surprise you were sucked into the MLM shit. I would suggest you go research before posting any further, it may save you some embarrassment.

Delete her. She won’t come round in 30 days so no point muting her. @CoffeQueenofHerts what u selling Hun? RevitalU or Valentus? If so, be careful, Valentus has already been shut down once by Trading Standards and RivitalU is run by a right crook. Bloody product based pyramid schemes. How can an ‘industry’ where research shows more than 99.7% of participants lose money ever be classed as an ‘opportunity’ not a scam? Have a look at mlmtruth.org.

Report
CmdrCressidaDuck · 16/09/2019 16:36

Well. I did not expect this thread to have a live demo of hard-of-thinking MLM hunnage so quickly...

But YANBU to delete her, unless you really have been close in the past, in which case mute/unfollow and wait 6 months until she's added up her losses and become disillusioned.
