AIBU?

To wonder why people have no blinds/ nets at the window ?

I’ve always grown up with news and curtains at the windows and have always had nets and curtains or blinds at my window however I have noticed when I pass other people’s homes some homes don’t have anything covering the window.

Surely if your house is on ground level and people pass by they can stare and look right inside your house ?

Do you ever worry about privacy ?

I get it’s not invasive during the day but surely when is nighttime and the lights are on indoors it must feel like everyone can see you ?

I don't have nets or blinds. At night when the lights are on I close the curtains. Or do you mean people with neither blinds, nets nor curtains? Confused

Our neighbours don't have anything up at their lounge window and yet used privacy glass on their front door?! The tiny hall is literally next door to the lounge

I don’t have anything in my front window, partly because I don’t have much to see in my dining room and I barely use it, but partly because my cat likes to sit in the window looking out the window and blinds/nets etc would block her view. As I’ve typed that I realise how crazy that sounds!

As above. I have curtains to close when it's dark. I don't have anything else up during the day. I hate blinds with a passion.

I am an exhibitionist.

Kidding!

Not sure, I guess some people just don’t mind.

We don't have anything on our living room window and have a tiny front garden so it's easy to see in. We have a very old cat who always sleeps on the living room windowsill in the sun. She's a messy cat and I got fed up of constantly washing net curtains and the vinyl 'frosted glass' kept peeling off so I gave up!

Do people still have net curtains? I thought they died out in the 80s?

We don’t have anything up at our windows because we’ve got a front garden so someone would have to be looking pretty hard to see in from the street.

I don’t know anyone with nets or blinds. They are definitely the C word. Sorry.

I detest net curtains and will not have them in my house. I sometimes use the blinds if I’m in the room which faces the roads but have no problem leaving them open most of the time.

Where I live a lot of neighbouring homes have the living room windows bare - no curtains, no nets, no blinds - so anyone walking past can easily stare in.

The homes are large and often I look at them on my way home from work while I’m daydreaming of owning one of them someday but most times it’s awkward as the lights are on, and the window is uncovered so often, not only can you can see right the way through the house, you can see the residents too (example; one home had the lights on and everyone in thier PJ’s watching TV with the lights on so everyone walking past could visibly see).

I just think I would always feel on edge like I’m being watched.

Went to the chip shop yesterday and saw another neighbour and her partner dancing in the living room and kids running about - again with uncovered windows and the lights on lol. Their house is outside a bus stop aswell so I could see everyone on the bus staring in.

Mabey I’m just old school but I like privacy. And we have attempted burglaries and car break-ins here sometimes as the houses are large so attract a lot of attention.

If the lights go on we close the curtains too so people can’t see in. We don’t have nets or blinds.

I think not having anything (no blinds, curtains or nets) is strange and I really wouldn’t like it. Plus it would be colder in winter, wouldn’t it?

'Nets' is like a swear word to me. I can't fathom why anyone in anything other than a caravan would have them. I couldn't care less if people want to look in. We are pretty rural, but that doesn't influence my dislike of window coverings.

We have no coverings on any of our downstairs windows and we have plantation shutters on all the bedrooms, but only because the early morning sun is blinding for the rooms at the back.

You'd have to be standing in our garden to see in any of our windows so not an issue.

I always worry re burglars being able to scope out if you have stuff worth nicking so have blinds.

Net curtains are hideous. I love looking in people's windows, especially in nice houses 😁

I don't have blinds or nets now but I used to live in a house that opened straight on to the pavement (think Coronation Street style northern terrace) with no drive or path or anything at all, and not having anything at the window freaked me out because people could literally see straight in my window when inches away from me as I sat on my sofa - so I did have blinds there. Every other house I've lived in I haven't really felt they were necessary because we were set back just enough from the pavement or in a cul-de-sac with no passing footfall.

Does anyone under the age of 70 still put nets in their windows? We don’t have blinds downstairs - strangers are welcome to glance through the window, I’m not sat watching tv naked or anything Grin I don’t expect anyone to actually stand and ‘stare’. At night we just shut the curtains. What have you got to hide OP?

We don't as we're currently having a 'discussion' about whether we should have shutters or blinds.... our window could be bare for a while (until someone gives up and backs down) Wink
