Marne - your parcels should be insured if they have been sent recorded/signed for delivery

Oh for heaven's sake, if people are f8cked around by their bosses, they have every right to protest. The right to withrdraw your labour is a fundamental tenet of democracy.

I ahve ahd some V important stuff alte / lost but FGS! its nto that easy to just walk into another job! And why should they? We are all entitled to a basic standard in life, if we work and Posties work hard.

Its not just about wages anyhow. Its about far more.

I ordered some perfume from Ebay and it has not arrived. Only my second order as well [dinosaur]

am I within my rights to kick the postie in the nuts next time I see him or not, I am thinking yes as it is obviously HIS fault and not his money grabbing snidey boss?

Thanks

PS i have five books, a birthday present and some work stuff missing in the post. doesn't the fact that we all rely on the RM for much indicate that we should treat its workers better?

nickytwotimes · 05/08/2007 20:53

ooh, yes, I say go back to sending kids up chimneys. If they don't like it, well, they can just go hungry, ungrateful little beggars!

My dp works at royal mail, and we really can't afford for him to be on strike.

The wages aren't that good, and it is not that easy just to get another job when you have your childcare planned around your working hours.

WideWebWitch · 05/08/2007 20:54

Ah, those were the days, when children knew their place. Which was mainly up chimneys

royal mail pay scales

They would be what I would describe as

offensive

(and my Dh doesn't work for RM, he is in the delivery industry though. Not well paid by any emans- £18,500 for amanagement grade job- but better)

also, I kicked my maidservant in the face today for not straightening my clothes in a suitably defferential manner.

I think you are entitled to your opinion.

It's not one I share.

Although I think that it is unreasonable of people to take a job and then start making unreasonable demands - double my pay, halve my hours, change my contract.... If a job is advertised, the terms and conditions are explained and you agree to them when you sign a contract. That's what the agreement is - Offer and Acceptance. It is unreasonable to take a job which offers certain things - thereby accepting those things - then, once in place, start to demand that massive changes are made to accomodate you.

I have seen that happen - I used to be an employer before my business went belly-up and I have had staff members behave that way to me!!

So, such people are taking the piss, frankly.

BUT. There is a point beyond which, employers are taking the piss. And this is where, I believe, Royal Mail is. The bosses are abusing the staff, taking advantage of them and behaving VERY unfairly.

This is wrong, and is NOT the same as someone taking a job and trying to change it to suit them. In cases like this one with RM, the staff member should not be made to feel 'like it or lump it', because it is the company that is in the wrong. The way they are treating their staff is appaulling!

£242 a week? Really? Bloody hell, that's slave labour.

My brother is a fab postie, he bends over backwards to be a nice bloke, and do his job well, and he likes the main bit of his job ie delivering the post, it's just all the crap that goes with he doesn't like.
