My dp works at royal mail, and we really can't afford for him to be on strike.

The wages aren't that good, and it is not that easy just to get another job when you have your childcare planned around your working hours.

I think you are entitled to your opinion.

It's not one I share.

Although I think that it is unreasonable of people to take a job and then start making unreasonable demands - double my pay, halve my hours, change my contract.... If a job is advertised, the terms and conditions are explained and you agree to them when you sign a contract. That's what the agreement is - Offer and Acceptance. It is unreasonable to take a job which offers certain things - thereby accepting those things - then, once in place, start to demand that massive changes are made to accomodate you.

I have seen that happen - I used to be an employer before my business went belly-up and I have had staff members behave that way to me!!

So, such people are taking the piss, frankly.

BUT. There is a point beyond which, employers are taking the piss. And this is where, I believe, Royal Mail is. The bosses are abusing the staff, taking advantage of them and behaving VERY unfairly.

This is wrong, and is NOT the same as someone taking a job and trying to change it to suit them. In cases like this one with RM, the staff member should not be made to feel 'like it or lump it', because it is the company that is in the wrong. The way they are treating their staff is appaulling!

My brother is a fab postie, he bends over backwards to be a nice bloke, and do his job well, and he likes the main bit of his job ie delivering the post, it's just all the crap that goes with he doesn't like.
