Crispy on the top and a perfect chewy texture on the bottom.

175g butter
175g light brown sugar
175g golden syrup

  • Merlot these all and stir

Add 350g of oats, 100g dedicated coconut and 75g sultanas

Put in a 30 x 20 cm tray and bake for 40mins at 150 degrees. Cut into 12 pieces when cooled. Die happy.

Love the idea of dedicated coconut, OP.

How much Merlot?

Report
Knittedfairies · 18/08/2019 13:55

I think the Merlot probably adds to the taste.

I'll omit the skanky sultanas but thank you!

Thank you! I’ll ditch the coconut, nuts work instead?

How do you weigh the syrup?

PeopleMover · 18/08/2019 13:56

I thought merlot was a typo for melt? Confused

I’d rather use Pinot Noir. Do I need to adjust the quantities?

How do you weigh the syrup?

At a guess, scales?

Thequaffle · 18/08/2019 14:01

Merlot goes in the side!!!

For weighing syrup, put a Little flour in your scale pan and shake it about so the surface is coated, then tip out the excess, then the syrup shouldn’t stick

ON the side....is the sugar coma I’m slipping into from the unbelievable flapjack!

In the side of what? The pan?

I do like a bit of dedicated coconut. So much nicer than that other coconut that never sees things through properly.

Report
Freefrops · 18/08/2019 14:05

But what is the coconut dedicated to? The merlot?

Chuck in some pumpkin seeds and that's basically the recipe I use. Bloody yum.

Put the saucepan on the scales and weigh all the ingredients straight in to the pan to weigh the syrup.

Coating a spoon in oil helps the syrup slide off cleanly if you spoon it not pour.

And because it's flapjacks the measurements don't have to be absolutely spot on.

@JudgeRindersMinder oooh chocolate chips would be good, how about something like dried cranberries or little pieces of honeycomb?
