All inclusive holiday irritations....

On holiday and in the restaurant......there is a huge block of butter put out each session with a knife to help yourself with.

I am getting more and more irritated by the people who insist on scraping a bit of butter off with this knife and then back to the butter to repeat before putting the knife down.

JUST PUT SOME ON YOUR PLATE.

Anything else I should be looking out for to annoy me GrinGrinGrin

(I'm actually having a fab time and am very relaxed 😎)

Should clarify I mean scraping it off and buttering their bread then putting the knife back!

Yeah, things like this mean I'll never go on an all inclusive holiday (and why I don't like any buffet food situations). People don't help themselves how I'd like them to.

I've only been to AI when I've been doing a sport (diving or skiing) because I want to shovel tons of food into my gob quickly. Ditherers: Step out of the queue or make your bloody mind up.

Sounds as if they are unaware of the etiquette which is, as you say, taking a small helping of butter and placing it at the edge of your plate.

Have never been in an All Inclusive holiday.

Staring. All social norms about not staring at strangers fall away at hotel swimming pools.

(an indirect AI irritation)

@NoTheresa you’re missing out.

Itchy Wristbands
Having to haul out of bed to get breakfast instead of lying in
Watching my children choose nuggets and chips from an international buffet with a million choices
Watching my children choose chow mein and sweet and sour sauce in SPAIN when there were sardines and beautiful panfuls of paellas on offer
The wine being watered down Grin

I've gone off AI. Self catering/fridge full of tapas/meze/cheap local booze, and eating out is bliss!

The only thing I miss is the ice cream cart by the pool where the kids and we could help ourselves without being policed. They still talk about that!

When the only table free is far away from the food.
Up, down, up,down no ds I can't go and get you some more fucking pitta....I feel like I've walked 20,000 steps before my main course.
This one may be a bit controversial, I can stand it when people pile their plate with loads of random foods that just don't go together.
Dh says this is the point of all inclusive.

Rank wine from dispensers that people put their dirty glasses up to for refills and touch the dispenser nozzle.
Not being allowed to take the drink I queued up for at the bar before dinner in to the dining room with me - even though it was also part of the AI deal.
People who queue jump or queue from the wrong direction.
Kids licking the ice cream dispenser then putting it back in the ice cream.
Food being left on hot trays outside without being covered so they end up as feeding vests for flies and other insects.

You have to queue to get your food? Is that an AI thing?

One that is particular to me -XH using the opportunity to make the entire family wait while he ate plate after plate of watermelon at the end of the meal Angry

And people not queuing for things like the omelette station but instead shoving their greedy selves in at the head of the queue.

I have only ever been to AI which has table service. Much better!

Report
SagAloojah · 22/07/2019 16:50

@LostInNorfolk

The serving pots are lined up on a long table, so the etiquette is to walk along the line inspecting each pot and to help yourself if you fancy it. You have to wait for the person in front of you to move the next pot, hence the queue. You couldn’t bypass them and move to the next pot, that would be the height of rudeness. —it’s ok if they’re being too slow / choosy—

You have to do the international buffet every night except the one special night that you’re allowed into the hallowed grounds of the speciality restaurant.

Report

People have food that doesn’t go together! E.g some spaghetti, with tomato sauce, egg fried rice, Sweet and sour chicken, sardines, Roast potato’s, and salad- all on the same plate! (Yes lady in Tenerife in 2018 I’m talking about you!)🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

AI meals are not like eating anywhere else. Every time I sat down with my plate DH and DS would disappear in different directions to get their next course. I ended up eating on my own all the time Confused
