The Lake District - WHY???

Rain, drizzle and yet more rain. Grey sky, grey houses and damp. Everyone in anoraks. Mist and fog and more grey. Plus I’m here with a bunch of American relatives who are all gung-ho and outward-bound and very loud, shrill “upspeak” voices, who think even the grottiest pub is “Awesome!!” Plus DH loves it and is showing off on his competitive extreme hikes.

Help - take me back to Fulham!

AIBU to think this is hell on earth?

Jurassicmuma Fri 19-Jul-19 19:04:52

Yabu the lake district is one of the most beautiful places in this country

AnyFucker Fri 19-Jul-19 19:05:03

Philistine smile

I am on my way up there for the weekend, like most weeks. Love it.

catwithnohat Fri 19-Jul-19 19:06:10

The Lake District is gorgeous. I wouldn't visit at this time of year myself though....too many people.

You're in one of the most beautiful places on earth. But I guess some people just aren't happy unless they're unhappy

washedoutandabout Fri 19-Jul-19 19:06:39

You come here every weekend?confused

What is it I’m missing here? I have to survive until Tuesday.

baddaboom Fri 19-Jul-19 19:06:40

Beautiful place, YABU. There will be some sunny spells tomorrow and glorious weather Sunday. Plus it's dry in the pub.

Disfordarkchocolate Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:02

Very unreasonable, it's even more beautiful in the rain. All you need is the right clothing and you will be fine.

washedoutandabout Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:28

Too many people? confused Where? It’s just sheep and mist.

ShinyMe Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:29

Because Fulham is lovely in the pouring rain?

MaxNormal Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:35

It's a pretty place but like most of the UK the weather is apt to be shite. And it's horribly overcrowded I'm the school holidays.

luckylavender Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:34

Why do some people moan all the time?

flowery Fri 19-Jul-19 19:07:48

Presumably it also rains in Fulham?

Moominfan Fri 19-Jul-19 19:08:39

No such thing as bad weather...

washedoutandabout Fri 19-Jul-19 19:08:53

How is it more beautiful in the rain? That’s exactly what the relatives were claiming today. But how, if you can’t see more than 5 metres? Are you supposed to hallucinate?

Macca84 Fri 19-Jul-19 19:09:07

I live here! In the quieter parts though, but... leave it alone! grin

AnyFucker Fri 19-Jul-19 19:09:15

Yes, I live about an hour away. I am driving up right now. It's my Happy Place.

It's not always grey and wet. Today looks a bit shit from the M6 as we speak. Easter was hot and sunny. Since then the weather has been mixed but mostly good. Like the rest of the UK.

QueenieMum Fri 19-Jul-19 19:09:35

YABVVVVU. Don't you get that kind of weather in Fulham?! There are plenty of things to do & see & there are MUCH worse places to be. You sound like an absolute joy to be around. Not.

washedoutandabout Fri 19-Jul-19 19:09:44

No we do not have this type of rain in London. This is different rain for sure.

NavyBerry Fri 19-Jul-19 19:10:09

Oh it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen (I have seen many)! Enjoy the nature and try to share your American company's excitement))) no harm in a bit of fog and rain

Want2727 Fri 19-Jul-19 19:10:17

It’s great if you know where to go to get away from the crowds

Disfordarkchocolate Fri 19-Jul-19 19:11:04

Which bit are you in? I rarely manage to avoid people but I'm quite unfit. Also, don't go Grasmere, so many tourists even though it is very pretty.

Heronwatcher Fri 19-Jul-19 19:11:20

YABU. Fulham is one of the most awful places on earth even when it is sunny (slightly joking as I live close, but the traffic, football idiots, self-entitlement, rubbish and pollution are dreadful). Ditch the relatives and go for a coffee in Kendal, lake Buttermere or a solitary ramble around anywhere really. The Lake District is glorious!

washedoutandabout Fri 19-Jul-19 19:11:36

Where are these crowds?

Crunchymum Fri 19-Jul-19 19:11:59

I'd swap with you (although you'd have to keep my kids grin)
