AIBU PFB about car seat

I’m having a problem with our car seat. It doesn’t click into the base easily (needs lots of shunting) and the indicators have shown that it is locked into the base when it is not.

I bought it online, and after sending videos which show the problem, customer services are saying that the manufacturer wants to see both the car seat and base to decide if it needs repaired/replaced. I’ve been told this could take 10 working days.

We live rurally, and so I need the car seat to get out and about. I’ve been offered a loan seat meanwhile, but it obviously can’t be guaranteed that this has been used properly/hasn’t been in an accident.

AIBU to refuse the loan and ask for other solutions (shorten repair time, let me take it to another store to demonstrate the problem, leave me with the car seat and just take the base or just trust the video I’ve sent and give me a replacement) to be considered? Not sure whether I’m being PFB about a loaned car seat....

Where did you buy it from? How long have you had it? I think I would be looking for a refund here if it's not fit for purpose rather than a repair. Due to the nature of the item you aren't likely to have had it for very long! Have you already agreed to the repair?

Pretty sure you don't need to deal with the manufacturer, it's the people you bought it from you have the contract with. Who would really want a "repaired" car seat?

Thanks for your reply! We bought it online (not directly from the manufacturer) and have had it for six months. It’s always needed a good wriggle to get it into the base, but it’s only recently with the indicators that prompted me to contact the online store. The online store have contacted the manufacturer who are saying they need to see it for inspection. I’ve not agreed to the repair (have just been asking what they are suggesting I do meantime).

I would suggest telling the people you bought it from that you want a refund as it is only 6 months old and is no longer fit for purpose.
What's that website - MSE? - that might have tips on your rights to return rather than have a repair.

Check with the seller what their policy is, and what the manufacturer standard warranty terms are. If it was bought 6 months ago that's potentially quite a lot of use so any issue could reasonably be wear and tear without them seeing it and a video doesn't show them all parts so it would need to be looked at.

I'd assume most have warranties for at least 12 months, but will have terms for what they will do within set time frames.

Just demand a refund as it's clearly unsafe and not fit for purpose.

Definitely ask for a refund.

Thank you all for replies. Will check MSE and email Citizens Advice to check rights re refund rather than repair. Just was concerned I wouldcome across as being ridiculous for saying I didn’t want a loaned car seat!

Not sure whether I should say the brand name, but the model name is Cloud.

You should be able to take a video of the issue and send it to them. I’m sure I did that when I had a problem with my maxi Cosi.

Never use a car seat when you don’t know the life history.

Thanks again for the replies, it’s reassured me that I’m not being overly cautious in refusing the loan. I’ve emailed Citizens Advice to ask for assistance.

I’d already sent across a video, but following that, they said their engineers needed to see it.

Yes, @pepsimax20bigger and @sausage1968 that is the brand. Sorry if I was being vague in my last post, I just didn’t want to create a post just to criticise the brand, it was more for a steer on what to do next.
