To be impressed by Prince William?

I know it shouldn’t need to be said but I was very glad to see him explicitly say that he would have no problem with any of his children being LGBT and would support them whatever. It’s the bare minimum we should accept from any parent, but I still think it’s a really good thing for such a public figure from a very traditional institution to actually publicly say it.

What he says in public and what he says in private are completely different and everyone knows it. If he's turning up to a gay charity then he says nice things about gay people, if he's at a train exhibition he says George loves trains, if Kate is at an animal charity then she'll tell us that insert name of child loves insert name of animal. And so on. She was at a photography thing this week and lo we discover that George and Charlotte are keen on taking photos, just like her. It's called spoon-feeding the masses to keep them docile. Meghan uses a similar tactic but hugs people instead.

I think you’re naive about the impact public figures have, and the way the stances they take affect public perception.

Nothing to be impressed about. What else was he likely to say?

CheerfulPotato · 26/06/2019 17:37

Well he’s hardly likely to say “Good Lord if Louis and George turn out to be raging homos I’ll disown the bally pair of them, what?!”

I’d be more impressed if he realised the issues associated with T are not quite the same as those associated with LGB.
But that would require the capacity for questioning and intelligent enquiry, and I fear that’s not terribly well developed when it comes to poor old wills

As mentioned above wait and see what he says if one of his children comes out.

Hardly likely to say he'd disown them, is he?

Exactly what CheerfulPotato said.

Why on earth is William getting a pat on the back for saying what any decent parent would say?

To be fair, im not a royalist but the royal family has long been known (since the 50s) as a gay friendly employer, and one of the main royals is supposedly gay without much issue.

Are you impressed by every parent who says this? Should we be impressed that the royal family has kept up with the times?

Surely we need to set the bar a little higher for every parent? What he's said is simply the bare minimum I'd expect from anyone with a brain.

Prince Edward, rumours have been going round for years.

He said what he had to say but I doubt he’s a massive homophobe. Nothing impressive about it really.

It was David Linley who -very bravely - faced down a blackmail plot a decade or so ago. The Australian press broke the name. But he's not a 'main royal'.

Good to see another member of the public interest fold in terror and support a viciously vocal minority of less than 8%. It's unusual though that he did it, he cant have a rabid bunch of purple haired women call his job and demand he be fired like us normal folk

Lord Ivar Mountbatten, cousin of the queen, married his boyfriend recently.

Prince Edward, rumours have been going round for years.

But he's married, so if he's gay that's a beard wife and two children that @Patroclus is describing as 'without much issue'. I'd call that fairly deep in the closet, myself, if true.

If Edward is gay, then why the need for a wife and two kids as camouflage if it isn't an 'issue'?
