To expect people contacting me via Freecycle to have some manners and not use TXTspk?

"Hi, have u still got the pc? thanx rob"

I know I am offering it for free but when I'm going to get 50 replies do you REALLY think that a nice polite note isn't going to make me favour you?

idiots

mp - calm love.

yoof culture innit?

Whooosh Wed 25-Jul-07 21:02:59

I personally can just about cope with the txt speak -it's the bsence of thank you's Ihave recieved for some brand new, expensive items.
HAs put me off rather and will only list crap from now on.

ALl the good stuff will go to the charity shop.

Furball Wed 25-Jul-07 21:03:11

Give it to a womens refuge (ask a doctor or HV) or other deserving charity instead

PersonalClown Wed 25-Jul-07 21:03:14

YANBU
The rude emails put me off.
'I'll pick it up at X o clock'
Did I offer it to you? Am I going to be waiting in for you? NO! GGGRRR.

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:03:48

I like the folks who try to haggle with you. 'Saw your other stuff offered. I'd want those, too.'

Drives me fecking mental!

Like when you offer something cheap as cheaps on Ebay or that and people STILL try to haggle you down.

F-off!

I delete responses like that immediately.

PersonalClown Wed 25-Jul-07 21:04:17

Thanks for that Furball. I had no idea who to ask about giving it to a refuge or somewhere similar.

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:05:09

I have some top quality stuff to give away, too - baby gear.

Most charities won't take it anymore so I'm wondering what to do because I need to get rid of it.

Oh don't get me wrong I DO like Freecycle

2/3 of the time people are really lovely and grateful and I feel all warm inside and virtuous knowing that I have just earned two weeks off purgatory

But the txtspk! I wonder how these people will ever get jobs

"Do u still hav the job i wud like it thanx Tammi x"

bossykate Wed 25-Jul-07 21:07:19

hi everyone

have done this before. please remember there are alternatives to freecycle - one such is Evergreen Trust will pick up your unwanted items and sell/recycle them in a good cause.

thanks for listening.

Furball Wed 25-Jul-07 21:07:40

womens refuge - see my post below ExinScot

Desiderata Wed 25-Jul-07 21:07:42

This morning's discarded yoghurt pot has more culture than today's yoof.

Quite agree, mp.

bossykate Wed 25-Jul-07 21:08:46

another one is TRAID - Textile Recycling for Aid and Development. hth.

morningpaper Wed 25-Jul-07 21:10:48

After christmas two years ago I rang the Women's Refuge and offered about £400 of new baby clothes and toys

They didn't want it! They suggested the charity shops

I have never recovered

I thought they would think I was bloody santa claus

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:15:54

I had that happen to me, too, MP. Apparently, it's because of space limitations.

paolosgirl Wed 25-Jul-07 21:19:52

Someone sent me an application for a job written out in their best txtspk. Yeah - that'll really get you places. That, and no punctuation or capital letters p*ss me off big time.

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:21:54

I had this twunt of a boyfriend who would use capitals inappropriately ALL THE TIME.

Among the other hurtful truths I hurled at him during our break-up was that this is not German. There is no need to capitalise nouns in the middle of sentences except in certain instances.

He was not amused .

morningpaper Wed 25-Jul-07 21:22:09

Just got this:

"im intrested in the pc but only the speakerz plz call"

Yeah RIGHT I'm gonna CALL

whomovedmychocolate Wed 25-Jul-07 21:22:26

Ooh that makes me LIVID when they do that

But not as much as the 'well if you've got both things I'll come and get them but if one's gone I can't really be arsed' replies.

And the folks who say ooh yes I'll come and then don't (I name and shame them as timewasters though)

Funnily I just freecycled my old breadmaker and my MIDWIFE turned up to collect it! Small world!

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:25:16

The funniest ones are the ones that want you to deliver the item to them.

LOL!

whomovedmychocolate Wed 25-Jul-07 21:25:42

It just occurred to me that my MW may need a oven for all the buns round her.

What's the 'pls call me on XXXX' about anyway. Why would I call someone when I can perfectly easily and freely email them?

whomovedmychocolate Wed 25-Jul-07 21:26:17

Or the 'have you got anything else while I'm here' brigade.

Yeah, I have a door, don't let it hit you on the ass on the way through it will you?

mummytosteven Wed 25-Jul-07 21:26:31

expat - pmsl at "this is not german".

mp - at least there was a variant of "thanks" there, some attempt at manners

expatinscotland Wed 25-Jul-07 21:27:34

He called me a 'ponce', mum . I told him I would take that as a compliment coming from such a tragic poser like him .

Desiderata Wed 25-Jul-07 21:27:56

I can only assume, expat, that he had a wide and large penis.

I can think of no other reason for your initial toleration of the freak.
