AIBU?

...to HATE it when people talk about "solids" in a food-related context?

It makes me think of TOILETS

Moreover, it makes me think of toilets in a detailed, nuts-and-bolts, ships' toilets and U-bends sort of way.

So STOP IT.

TIA

It doesn't make me think of toilets, it makes me think of ill people in hospital. Babies are not ill people.

Talking of a baby going onto solids makes you think of ship toilets and u-bends - ????? Errr okaayyyyyy!

My father has a history of Living On Boats - really old, really crap boats - and believe me, the toilet arrangements can be complicated, there are all sorts of rules about exactly what you can and can't "do" where......

Especially since most of them aren't that 'solid' - baby rice and puree
What would you call them instead?

I have to say solids at work because in the context of what I do it is the exact opposite of liquids (I work in a hospital btw)

I've never heard the term solids used to mean something bowel related, sure it's not just you!!

"solid food" would be just about tolerable....but not "solids"

Oh you know this necklace btw. People STARE at it all the time when they are talking to me. But they never mention it, which is what I would expect them to do normally, if they liked it. They just STARE and then remain silent, wearing an expression that I believe intimates

"I am trying not to let on that I have noticed she is wearing a necklace made from bits of old scraps glued together by a LOON"

I have no idea what you mean.

Do you mean it reminds you of poo?

No, they are marvelling at your wonderfully craggy and twisty old turkey-neck

Well, Eric, if you went to a toilet on a boat and there was a sign on the door saying "No solids", what would YOU make of it?!?!

Well it is funny that I have had the same twisty old turkey neck for years and years but suddenly, just when I am co-incidentally wearing a mad old bit of tat on it, everyone feels the need to stare in an anxious and slightly alarmed fashion
